About
The Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago, Illinois is one of the largest and most stunning conservatories in the world, and it’s free. We change lives through the power of nature. Often referred to as landscape art under glass, the Garfield Park Conservatory occupies approximately 12 acres inside and out, and includes cold frames and propagating where thousands of plants are grown each year for displays in City parks and spaces.

A great place to experience the diversity of the planet!
This place has been on my radar for sometime and I finally got to visit. Was there on a VERY hot day and being inside a greenhouse may not have been the best move. However, the place is amazing and quite large. Being there it amazes you how diverse and beautiful our planet is. The conservatory isn’t in the best neighborhood, so we didn’t explore beyond it, but we felt very safe during our visit and the on site parking is great (and free). Finally, all the staff were very friendly. Bottom line, go visit!

    Beautiful beyond measures
We took our in-laws for a quick tour to this amaizing botanical garden. We loved every quarter they have. The best part is that it's FREE but you can always donate any amount so they can continue to offer such pleasant atmosphere.

    Serene Strolling among Interesting Plants
Very pleasant experience walking through the variety of rooms with plants from different environments - tropics, desert, etc. One room depicts what Chicago looked like a million years ago. An outdoor section includes plants demonstrating "bit ideas for small city spaces". Easily viewable in about an hour, but someone can take longer if they want to. Just a few steps from Green Line stop.

    Beautiful, well-thoughtout, distinct rooms
Amazing!! We truly enjoyed every room in the conservatory! The website says reservations are free, but required. That being said, I think you can still walk in without a reservation if it isn't busy. We booked a time online but ended up being there 30 minutes late and it was no trouble. (We took the green line to the Conservatory- Central Park Drive stop) They have bathrooms and a coat rack. I suggest you hang our coat as the rooms are very hot and humid! There are multiple rooms with different types of plants. Each one is wonderful and magical. The place is huge! I would like to go back in the summer when the outside sections are in season. Nothing to see outside in the winter.

Can I give a zero? We went for a surprise proposal and we got in on Saturday to check in at exactly 4:34 and were told that since we are 4 minutes past 4:30 that we cannot get in. We told them that we were traveling from out of town, California, they did not care. They even said that they have turned away people from out of the country.
Big Karen energy from the front desk staff. Wouldn’t go back. Definitely wish we could take back our donation.

My teen son and I visited on a cold day. Beautiful gardens, peaceful, and nice and warm. We especially liked the show garden.

I visited the Conservatory as part of a wedding party. What an amazing venue and space. I will for sure be visiting in the future during the winter months in Chicago.

Beautiful old conservatory. Great curation of the facilities and plants. The visit is free but they ask to kind of reserve a time slot. Note the L runs through the edge of the park.

My wife and I took the metro to Garfield Park. Having easy public transportation from the city of Chicago should be a plus for tourism. We got there early and walked around Garfield Park and it was unsettling how much trash was seen and areas appeared to be unkept. The Conservatory itself was clean and well cared for. We enjoyed the walk but have been to far nicer settings like the Phipps in Pittsburgh. I am hopeful the community helps keep the surrounding area more well kept and donors/tourism dollars can help create an every more enjoyable visit.
