- Sagri2013Indianapolis, Indiana4,367 contributionsClassic Striking Tourist Spot in Downtown Chicago.Established in July 2004 it is now one of the biggest free attractions of Chicago city covering an area of 1400 acres. A prominent civic center near the city's Lake Michigan shoreline is the number one tourist attraction in the Midwestern United States visited by about 25 million people annually. The admission to the park is free, and it features the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain, the Lurie Garden, and other attractions. Also, it has an exceptional blend of stunning architecture, sculpture and landscape design. We found this park a good place to walk around and watch people of different nationalities and nature enjoying the outdoors and observing the beauty of Chicago. For the visitors’ entertainment, there are three square blocks of open lakefront complete with a Ferris Wheel, outdoor music pavilion, and ice-skating rink. Skating is free and open to the public. Cloud Gate, aka “The Bean”, one of Chicago’s most popular sights, is in this park. It is 33 feet high, 42 feet wide, and 66 feet long. It weighs about 110 tons. The parking fees range from $27 to $34 for up to 3 hours depending on weekdays and weekends. In short, the Park is an award-winning center for art, music, architecture and landscape design.Visited March 2019Written 10 February 2020
- Colin ArchibaldKingston, Tennessee4,467 contributionsInteresting venueMillennium Park is obviously a favorite among tourists. There is a large amphitheater which would be great for concerts. The "Bean" was surrounded by tourists but is a fascinating piece of modern art. The highly polished surfaces of the Bean is like going into the fun house at a carnival and if you stand with your back to the city, you get a panoramic view in the reflection. I do recommend taking public transportation or walk if your hotel is close by. Parking here is really expensive ($30.00 for 3 hours or part thereof).Visited January 2020Written 22 January 2020
- RCSColumbusColumbus, Ohio620 contributionsBeautiful Park with Interesting and Entertaining Art WorksThis beautiful park that links downtown to the Lake Michigan shore is a mecca for people of all ages who come to enjoy the wide-open spaces, beautiful landscaping and fun outdoor sculptures. The Crown Fountain (with faces spitting streams of water at people below every 20 minutes) and the huge Cloud Gate mirrored "bean" are fun, impressive and totally original. The undulating BP pedestrian bridge across Lakeshore Drive is an amazing and beautiful piece of architecture. The park is surrounded by the skyscrapers of the city on three sides and the vast open sky above Lake Michigan on the other. This park is well worth a stroll in any kind of weather at any time of the year.Visited June 2019Written 26 February 2020

Fun park to visit and walk around tbh. Security was there but they weee kind of weak. Half they’d search and half they’d say you can just go thru lol. So it didn’t feel super safe but it’s just a park. But was cool and I liked the faces on the pillars lol

Millennium Park was full of sites -- nature, art, people watching. We enjoyed the sanctuary in the middle of downtown Chicago, surrounded by skyscrapers. The Bean sculpture is fenced up right now while undergoing renovations, but you can still see it. Fun experience for people of all ages.

The bean was surrounded by a tall construction fence, hard to see and hard to take pictures. We didn’t realize this before we went. I would still go to see it but the fence didn’t look like it was coming down anytime soon…

We walked all the way here to discover this area of the park doesn’t allow dogs. The audacity. Our dogs behave better than many of the people ya’ll let in. That’s ok, nobody wants to look at those funky old sculptures anyways.

beautiful park in the middle of the city and not too far from the lake. very walkable and clean. The area w/ the "Bean" was closed unfortunately, but was able to sneak a pic through the fencing. The park has a beautiful amphitheater offering concerts, definitely a vibe.

Millennium park is a lovely park adjacent to Lake Shore Drive and located in downtown Chicago. The Bean is there, though under construction during our visit so we couldn’t get close to it. There is a really cool Fountain in the park as well Definitely worth a visit!

I remember when the current site of Millennium Park was land occupied by sparse parkland, the Illinois Central Railroad yards and parking lots. Since 2004, it has covered 24.5 acres of the northwest part of Grant Park, known as the "front lawn" of downtown Chicago. Bounded by Michigan Avenue to the west, Randolph Street to the north, Columbus Drive to the east and East Monroe Drive to the south, the $475 million complex known as Millennium Park sits atop its own 2,218-space parking garage, the commuter rail Millennium Station and rail lines and is considered the world's largest rooftop garden. A showcase for postmodern architecture, the park has emerged as the No. 1 tourist attraction in Chicago and the Midwest and one of the top 10 tourist attractions in the United States with 25 million annual visitors. The park features a variety of public art, outdoor spaces and venues, including the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate or "The Bean," Crown Theater and Lurie Garden. It is connected to other parts of Grant Park by the BP Pedestrian Bridge and the Nichols Bridgeway. The centerpiece of Millennium Park is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, a bandshell designed by Frank Gehry with 4,000 fixed seats plus lawn seating for 7,000. It is home to the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Grant Park Music Festival, the nation's only remaining free, outdoor, municipally supported classical music series. But the most popular single attraction in the park is Cloud Gate, dubbed "The Bean" by Chicagoans because of its legume-like shape. It is a $23 million, three-story reflective steel sculpture, the first public artwork in the United States by world-renowned artist Anish Kapoor. Composed of 163 stainless steel plates welded together, its highly polished exterior has no visible seams. It is 33 feet high by 66 feet long by 42 feet wide and weighs 110 tons. Other attractions in the park are the McCormick Tribune Ice Skating Rink,Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater for Music & Dance, Wrigley Square, McDonald's Cycle Center, Evelon Pavilion, Boeing Galleries, Grainger Plaza and Chase Promenade.

Our guide mentioned that the Bean will undergo renovation, so the visitors will not be able to approach it for some time.

Unfortunately the bean’s area is under construction right now. There is a fence all around it hence you can’t get near it!

I don't remember seeing any. We stayed by the Chicago River so we were in walking distance. Anything too far away for a walk sent us for Lyft.

Very safe area. There are a couple of excellent hotels on Monroe that are a 2 block walk to Millennium Park. I love the Hampton Inn next to the theater at the intersection with Dearborn. There are 9 rooms on each floor and it is very quiet. The blue line from O'Hare airport stops 1/2 block from the hotel. Plus the hotel offers a full breakfast every day. The Kimpton Gray is also a great place to stay on Monroe at the intersection with LaSalle.

It is definitely possible to walk to Soldier Field...I would advise the lakefront path. When you get to the Planetarium or the Aquarium, make sure to take a picture of the skyline. You can also take a segway tour to Soldier Field......

We parked at Lakeside of Millennium Garage. If you buy the parking pass online, it's cheaper. We paid $15 for up to 8 hours of parking.
