This water taxi is cheap and great for getting around the city and having fun on the water where you see so much more than in a car.

If you want to see Chicago by water and don't want to spend the money on the higher priced cruise operators then you may want to consider the Chicago Water Taxi which basically does the same routes for a fraction of the price.

We opted out of the architecture tour due to cost. This is a fraction of the cost and just as much fun. We rode up and down the river twice (we bought a day pass) and had a great time on the river. Great way...More

We chose the Chicago Water Taxi to ride from the Michigan stop to Chinatown and back. Great inexpensive way to see the city from the river. They were very helpful in helping us with wheel chair assistance for our grand daughter.

We.catch the taxi accross from the Ogilvie Train Station. Moves slowly down the river with a stop at Michigam Avenue and then on to Navy Pier. Great view of buildings and restaurants along the riverfront.

A great ride ... not crazy expensive... and after a long day of walking it was the perfect trip for both kids and adults in our group.

This is a super way to see the city. It's very reasonably priced, your ticket lets you go anywhere you want for 24 hours. I'd recommend sitting back and enjoying the 20 minute trip to China town. For me a cheap alternative to the many...More

Actually, maybe not a short walk with a 6 year old, but bus or taxi would be convenient.
