Just a really fun place to take pictures. It was pretty warm yesterday and the reflections showed beautifully in the sun.

High crime area. Last night a 16 year old was shot and killed at 7:30 pm. This is an iconic tourist attraction in Chicago but with all if the crime, just beware. Hopefully that will change and folks can feel safe enjoying it again. Great spot right in the center of Chicago.

The best time to go if you are walking is the middle of the day. There is a lot of crime In Chicago and a lot of shootings everyday while I was there the middle of the day was the safest time it seemed

Cloud Gate, aka "the Bean," is one of the top tourist attractions in the city of Chicago. That is why we went there. Still trying to understand the appeal. It is basically a large, bean shaped mirror. Now you know so you do not need to go yourselves.

Yes, we walked to the bean, just a few blocks from the river and easily accessible from the Loew’s Hotel. Great experience and fun place for a picnic.

My mom and I took a pit stop at THE BEAN on our way to visit the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Not only did it reflect our beautiful faces, it reflected the Windy city behind us leaving us with an amazing view. I 100% recommend stopping at the bean (or Cloud Gate as some other more boring people may refer it as) any time you are driving through Chi town!

If there are 100 people in downtown Chicago, 50 of them them are here. It is a truly amazing people draw.

Must see if you are in the area. Reflection of the city is beautiful but don’t forget to walk underneath! It is mesmerizing!

An interesting sculpture and fun to try and take pictures with. I'm not 100% sure it's worth coming out for on its own (unless you're a modern art enthusiast) but if you're going to Millennium Park already then I recommend stopping by.

Is this still gated off, or is it opened up yet? If still gated off, any plans to reopen it? Thanks!!

sorry for the delayed response. You could get pretty close for photos but there are low fences that keep you about 20 feet back. Don't know if it was that way before. I thought it was pretty accessible and it was fun to view and look at from different angles. Different angles reveal different reflections.

We have a 6 hour layover from O'Hare International Airport on Jan 23rd (Thursday). Would it be doable to do a quick visit to Cloud Gate and maybe grab some food and be back in time for our flight? We will be arriving at 1:20 and departing at 7:30.
I should also mention that my husband and I will have our 5 kids with us 😁
Thanks in advance!

Not a question but just wanted to share about the best way to park in any large city. Use the app Spothero. We used in Chicago and was so very helpful and saved us money!!!

What is the best time to go during the day to avoid large crowds?
jenthetravelhacker

We go several times a year and the crowd varies with the day of week as well as the weather. if you go on a weekday (not during summer or holidays) you will probably find the crowds much more manageable any time of the day or evening. If you are planning to go on a weekend or during summer, its best to go around 9 or 10 am to beat the swarm of visitors.

I am making a trip there to see the Bean and would like to know where to park - the closer the better - i think its going to be cold :-)

There is a large parking garage under Millennium Park that would be most convenient. If you park at the north end, closer to Randolph, you'll come out of the garage closer to the Bean. I always use Spot Hero for prepaid parking. Put in your destination, and they'll show you a map with all available parking nearby. It's excellent and will save you a lot of cash.

Best and cheapest place to park? Do they parking lot accepts credit card?
JP2431
Chicago, IL310 contributions
Parking is always difficult and expensive in Chicago. Most lots accept credit cards and if you park on the street, more than likely you will have to pay as well at a machine, that also accepts credit cards. Best bet is to Uber or take a train from wherever you are coming from.

I don't know but I would imagine most places do take credit cards
