The Robie House on the University of Chicago campus is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture. It was created by Frank Lloyd Wright for his client Frederick C. Robie, a forward-thinking businessman. Designed in Wright's Oak Park studio in 1908 and completed in 1910, the building is both a masterpiece of the Prairie style and renowned as a forerunner of modernism in architecture. Tours of the site offer both a first-hand experience of its amazingly contemporary spaces and the current restoration work that is returning the house to its original appearance. Public tours are available Thursday - Monday. The museum is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Social events and family programs are hosted on weekends throughout the year. Robie House is also available for facility rentals and special events. Visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust website to learn more.

The interior was only partly restored, but you get the sense of a FLW design. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out interesting details of the house. Loved it.

The building is currently under renovation and not fit for viewing. Projected finish for the restoration seems a bit optimistic at 18 months.

I was looking forward to our Robie House tour, as one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most iconic works. The exterior has been carefully stabilized and preserved, but the interior was a bit disappointing. The house was occupied by its original family for only 8 or...More

Robie struck us as the most livable of Wright's designs, and because it is going through a thorough renovation its construction is open to the visitor. We had thought we'd seen the best of Wright's designs and execution, but Robie House proved us very wrong....More

The Robie House is a must see if you like Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. It is under remodeling but still worth visiting. More interesting buildings to see in the area since its in the campus of the University of Chicago

The Robie house is incredible. For FLW lovers and architecture buffs, it's a must. It's one of Wright's more well-kept works, which makes touring it even more enjoyable.

Frank Lloyd Wright was a great architect who on this occasion showed that he was more concerned about his own architectural principles than the comfort of his clients. An excellent guided tour by a man who introduced himself as Peter provided the information that the...More

A short $4 train tide from the Loop, then a dew minute walk, brings you to the 90% restored uber "plains style" Fran Lloyd Wright Robie House. The tour takes about an hour. It's beautiful, interesting, and a must. Across the street is the U...More
