The Robie House on the University of Chicago campus is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture. It was created by Frank Lloyd Wright for his client Frederick C. Robie, a forward-thinking businessman. Designed in Wright's Oak Park studio in 1908 and completed in 1910, the building is both a masterpiece of the Prairie style and renowned as a forerunner of modernism in architecture. Tours of the site offer both a first-hand experience of its amazingly contemporary spaces and the current restoration work that is returning the house to its original appearance. Public tours are available Thursday - Monday. The museum is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Social events and family programs are hosted on weekends throughout the year. Robie House is also available for facility rentals and special events. Visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust website to learn more.

It's a very pleasant walk around the University campus and to see the Robie House. Check ahead for a tour. If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright buff, you will enjoy seeing it as renovations are taking place.

We enjoyed our tour during a lovely spring day. Despite the construction which limited interior viewing of certain spaces, we appreciated being offered a $2 return voucher during the summer. Very interesting addition to our comprehensive Frank Lloyd Wright Trust tour of Chicago and Oak...More

Robie House is in the middle of a major renovation. To make the tour more relevant I think They need to adjust their talking program & describe the tour as if you were a delivery person coming thru the service entrance to make a delivery....More

The house is incredible. Unfortunately my timing was off and the house is under renovation conditions. All the furniture has been removed. It was cool to see process, but would love to see it furnished and restored.

Took mother here a few years ago. FLW houses are my thing. This one is no different. Beautiful everything...well except for bathroom, kitchen, and bedrooms. Nowadays this wouldn't jive. House hunters want stainless. FLW wanted fame. Enough of my high horse. FLW isn't for everyone...More

We saw the Robie house as part of the Chicago Architecture Foundation bus tour. We had been really looking forward to seeing this architectural masterpiece. However, as previous reviewers have remarked, the renovations are extensive and impede getting a good view of the incredible innovations...More

I lived in Chicago 12 years ago and have very fond memories about Wright homes. I took my husband, who was visiting Chicago for the first time, to Robie House. We were very surprised that the house was under massive restoration when we got there....More

Having visited other FLW homes, I was disappointed with this experience. The house is under restoration which is not why I was disappointed. The guide for the tour was the disappointment. I did not feel she was knowledgeable about the features of the house itself...More

Unfortunately old buildings need repair and preservation from time to time, and unfortunately my trip to Chicago and my chance to see Robie house coincided. As a huge FL Wright fan, it was still a thrill to see it, but it sure was disappointing. They...More
