About
YES! OUR SANCTUARY IS OPEN! Masks and social distancing are required, but we are happy to see you! We are open every day of the year from Sunrise to Sunset. The Laura Quinn Wild Bird Sanctuary is home to over one hundred non-releasable, permanent resident birds including hawks, owls, vultures, pelicans, gulls, songbirds, and more. Visitors are invited to learn about our birds and the fragile ecosystems of the Florida Keys. Admission is free, but donations to help the FKWBC to continue to fulfill our mission are gladly accepted. The Florida Keys Wild Bird Center's mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release native and migratory wild birds that have been harmed or displaced, to provide or locate a humane shelter for those birds that cannot be released, and to educate the public toward the importance of coexistence with all wild bird species. The Florida Keys Wild Bird Center is a 501(C)(3) Charitable Organization.

Birds!
Apr 2021 • Solo
Stopped in on my way down The Keys! I was a little disappointed. I am not sure if I just stopped in on a bad day or week but it was not what I was expecting. Nice walkway around the enclosures however I felt like the enclosures themselves were a bit small and not well taken care of. I was hoping to see Pelicans but saw none. I realize the facility may be supported or funded by donations only but I can only hope the animals are take care of. I may have stopped by during renovations or just a bad time. So stop in, check it out! Drop a donation, it helps no matter how big or small. Parking area is small, just an FYI. Enjoy!

Interesting.

This was an interesting place. We enjoyed reading about the birds and why they were at the sanctuary. It appears there are areas of the boardwalk that need repairs. There were a lot of common birds there. The pelican area was closed for renovations or repairs. We thought there was not a lot to see here, but we are glad we went to learn about the care given to these injured birds.

Will stop for animals :)
Jun 2021 • Family
Every time we drive down to the Keys from Ft Lauderdale we stop here. If you are an animal lover you will love it. Our favorite is a friendly, one-eyed blue jay...he's absolutely adorable. Thanks to the staff for all their work taking care of all these beautiful little creatures.

Loved this place!
Feb 2021
Go check out this really awesome place while in Key Largo. It is donation only, and we were able to see a lot of great birds. We were also surprised by a chameleon hanging out on the railing. We were more than willing to make a larger donation for the good of the wildlife in the area.

Wow! Thank you for your nice review and for your donation! Largely because of the high level of activity in our Avian hospital where we see over 1,000 birds annually in over 100 different species, it takes well over $1200 a day to keep the doors open. The Sanctuary where you visited is our public face. But, there is so much happening behind the scenes! We are so happy you enjoyed your visit! Please come visit us again!

This was a nice place for bird rescue. I loved seeing the different birds. So sad the things that have happened to do but glad for these people caring for them! Also met the friendliest blue Jay.

Than k you so much for your visit and your review. Please keep in mind that the birds in the Sanctuary are only a small sample of the 1,000 birds we treat in our Avian hospital annually. We have a very good record of success in rehabilitation and release back into the wild!

It was interesting to see so many species of birds up close. I am glad that there are groups dedicated to caring for injured wildlife. I would recommend a visit.

Bird Sanctuary
May 2021
This place is not very big and doesn't take much time to walk around. There are some interesting birds and they appear to be well cared for. Decent place to go if you are a bird or nature lover.

Thank you for your review. We have some construction in progress. In a few months our "Pelican Pond" should be open with a new expanded viewing area.

Pretty Neat Bird Rehabilitation Center
Apr 2021 • Couples
Very cool place to stop off and visit if you like birds. I always think it’s pretty neat that there are folks that follow a calling they have in this case for bird rehabilitation. They obviously help and house a lot of birds that can’t go back into the wild. An owl they had was very pretty.

My only suggestion make a more visible sign for Cash Donations. There was a way to make a credit card donation but didn’t notice anything with a sign for cash donations unless it happened to be the pelican up front. You guys are doing a great thing taking care of God’s creations don’t be afraid to ask for Cash as well as Credit Card donations and make it visible. ❤️Thank you for what you do!

Well thank you! The Sanctuary has been there for over 30 years. It is staffed largely by volunteer interns with an interest in ecology, biology, and or wildlife in general. Our avian hospital, further south on the highway, treats over 1,000 avian patients from about 100 different species annually. Thank you for your support!
