- Katie R3 contributionsCan’t miss!My husband and I had a few hours in key west to pick one museum/tour and we picked this tour after reading the reviews and don’t regret it at all! I’m not much of a history buff myself, but I throughly enjoyed it. Each staff member was incredibly friendly and Greg M. led our tour — he was fantastic, he was knowledgeable and kept the tour very interesting. I’m so glad we were able to make a stop here and throughly recommend it!Greetings Katie, Wow, that is a great review! Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your experience. We love reading about our guests' experiences and sharing them with our CAST. - 907blakedTampa, Florida1,456 contributionsEnjoyable tourWe enjoyed our tour, and our guide, Greg, was excellent. I’m not sure this is a must-do, but then again, there’s not a whole lot of must-dos in Key West. This attraction is probably among the top 2 or 3 things to do in Key West. The price is a bit high for what is included in the tour.Greetings Blaked, We love reading about our guests' experiences, and our CAST also enjoys knowing that they made your trip memorable. - 2dogladyTennessee996 contributionsOff the Main Road in Town but Easy to FindWe have visited the Truman house in Independence, Missouri, and his Presidential Library. Now we have seen the Truman Little White House and learned even a bit more about him … more of his personal side. The guided tour was well done, interesting, and a good length of time. You visit two floors and can visit the gift shop there if desired. I would give this a good recommendation for others visiting the area based on our experience.Thank you so much for your detailed comments! Our CAST is very proud of the work they do, and it sounds like it pays off. We're glad to know we're hitting the mark. - MSSmith217Emmaus, Pennsylvania16 contributionsLearn about Truman’s Fashion Sense!I stopped in mostly to get a break from the heat and left thrilled with the tour and all I had learned. Our tour guide, Bob, literally wrote the book on the Little White House and was really able to make the history come alive. I had no idea that so many important things had happened in the Little White House over so many administrations. What I really loved, though, was learning about all that Truman did in support of civil rights.Hello, we're so happy to hear you had a great time in the Little White House! He spun a good story about Truman. I enjoyed his spin. Here is located near Duval Street. - PJMontgomery, Texas214 contributionsWorth checking outThis is a former home of Harry S. Truman turned into a museum as he made 11 trips to this home in Key West, Florida. This museum is very interesting and educational as it looks at his private life behind the scenes. There are different tours available. Our tours guide was very knowledgeable sharing fascinating stories of Truman's life in Key West. His presidential limousine is on display outside for picture taking and available for a ride with the purchase of a different tour. There is a very nice gift shop. Worth the visit.Thank you so much for your fabulous review! We're thrilled to hear that you had a fantastic experience at our museum. - Dean T9 contributionsI love this tourThe Harry Truman Little White House Museum gave a Fantastic tour. My guide was Bob. What a wealth of information that guy is. I learned so much about Harry Truman's Presidency. He was a great President. The house was amazing. All the pictures of the first family in that house really helped me see what life was like there in the late 40s. The poker table was inspiring. Presidential chips and cards. I felt like sitting down and playing. I just loved the tour. I'd recommend it to anyone.Wow, that is a great review! Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your experience. Great history about Truman. Wasn’t aware that home had been visited by so many interesting people. The guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. For an additional $5 we were able to add Sails & Rails museum mainly covering the Flagler railroad to Key West. We purchased White House tickets online but were able to add the Sails & Rails at the entrance to the Little White House.

Harry S Truman tried to move the Whitehouse permanently from Washington DC to Key West and when you visit this lovely former US Navy mansion you'll understand why. Guided tours take you around the bedrooms, and living areas, where many US presidents and other luminaries have visited. Very interesting and perfectly preserved. A bit too much reliance on videos to provide information.

Our guide Bob was the best we have outside of a few who dragged us though the Coliseum in Rome to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
His knowledge and respect for our 33'rd President, told in captivating detail, grabbed everyone's interest. I stole several of his anecdotes to write an article relating to business on the flight home.
Go there to find out how the guy who made some of the toughest decisions in American history thought.

Our visit to The Little White House was interesting, full of stories about Truman, and a visit to the island home from another era. Randi, our guide, was quite knowledgeable but spoke so rapidly that words were lost as she totally blurred syllables. Group size exceeded 30 people—-probably too large for this house under typical circumstances...and definitely did not allow for social distancing. Masks were required, but I saw no sanitizer to use after we all touched the hand railings on very steep stairs. Because of the large group, our guide told about the upstairs while we were still downstairs, and then sent the entire group up the stairs. Very interesting house for those interested in presidential history, but sorely lacking in COVID protocol. PS It’s cheaper if you purchase tickets online, but still a pricey tour at $18.33 pp.

The visit with a tour costs about $16 and it is $2 cheaper if you buy hour ticket on line. The tour lasts about 40 minutes and is informative regarding the historical events that took place in this house. If you enjoy history this is a very interesting site.

We didn't tour whole site, but we saw the free exhibits and enjoyed the history of those. We had teenagers with us who wouldn't enjoy whole tour, so the free portion was just enough for us. It's a lovely place to visit and at least say you've been. The people working were very nice as well.

My husband and I truly enjoyed visiting Harry Truman’s Little White House in Key West. The house and the grounds are charming and well kept up. The tour was very interesting. The guide was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting personal stories about the Trumans. There was also a short film that we enjoyed watching. The small entrance fee that we paid to take the 40 minute tour was well worth it.

A must visit when in Key West, to experience history in the very capable hands of the staff. Rick, our guide, had a wealth of knowledge and was able to read his audience and tailor his talk. The ops boss, Tom, patiently handled my questions about process and ensured we had an amazing experience. Isabella was a gracious and informative gatekeeper. Highly recommend returning for multiple visits as there are many details one might miss on a single visit. Would also suggest calling ahead to ensure there are no early closures due to special events (which are critical elements of the larger support base of such a well respected charity). A great experience for the entire family.

The Truman Little White House was likely the highlight of our visit to Key West. The house is beautifully maintained, decorated with exact replica upholstery and wall coverings, and filled with many of the original furnishings in use during Truman’s tenure. Our guide/docent, George, was remarkable—both in terms of his wit and delivery as well as his vast knowledge of the history of the house and of Truman himself. For the most part, the house is navigable by individuals with mobility issues, though there is one narrow staircase to negotiate (both up and down.) Photography is not permitted inside the house. The interior is air conditioned and visitors are provided with a complimentary bottle of water.

Via tour guide, you’re taken through the house that president Harry S. Truman stayed at during his presidency. Other presidents have also stayed here but Truman visited the most of all presidents. You walk through the living room, game room, dining and bedroom areas with tid bits of history told about each room. Good stories go with each room. If you’re into history and politics you’ll like it. I thought the cost was a bit high tho for the half hour tour.

This house is not run by the US Park Service so you cannot. I recommend buying your passes online as that will save you a couple bucks.

A message to our Truman Little White House community:
First and foremost, thank you for all the messages and well wishes sent our way during last week's storm. We wanted to be sure to notify you that our Tour Guides and Museum Staff in Key West are safe. While the Truman Little White House was spared by Hurricane Irma, we are using this time to assess any repairs and evaluate the status of our historic gardens.
As Truman himself once said, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” We would like to thank the many courageous members and volunteers who have dedicated their mornings to clearing the area of debris and downed trees.
We hope to be open for tours by the end of the week and appreciate your steadfast support. We look forward to an amazing season ahead and pray that you and your families were minimally impacted by the storm.
Follow us on Facebook for the latest news and updates.
Sincerely,
Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation Team
