The town itself isn't really a ghost town. It is still inhabited and has a few tourist-oriented businesses. Therefore, you aren't going to get a lot of history here and your photo ops of the buildings will have modern cars sitting in front of them....More

We were visiting over Halloween, but a welcomed snowstorm meant we had the place pretty much to ourselves. This is a real deal ghost town, but with all of the remaining buildings privately owned. It looks like that in summer, there is a B&B and...More

No state has more ghost towns than Colorado. The gold rush brought humanity and hardship to the Rocky Mountains. Mining towns popped up by the dozens. But just as quickly most of them were abandoned when the gold or silver ran out. Such was the...More

The views are amazing but the place it self is a total let down. Old looking houses worth no explanation of what they used to be or anything really historical... only creepy thing was a doll by a window... boring...

The drive to St Elmo was beautiful with the autumn colours along the road, really easy to visit if staying around Mount Princeton. The actual town is very small and much of it closed at the minute for repairs, still well worth the trip if...More

The drive was lovely, but the destination was a huge let-down. No historical buildings or ruins: just a junky collection of modern homes, a parking area and a feeding area for ground squirrels. There are REAL ghost towns in Colorado: don't waste your time driving...More

Awesome to view a look back into the past. Hard to imagine people working and living so far away from civilization. Last bit is a hard-packed dirt road suitable for any vehicle.

What a beautiful drive up to St Elmo ghost town this time of year. The leaves are changing and the wind is cool, Colorado is so beautiful. We stoped on the way there at Alpine lake and it was amazing with the changing leaves. There...More

Really neat town and the drive up to it is beautiful in the fall with the Aspen trees all changing colors. The town is currently being renovated by the historical society with only the church done so far. We will come back to see the...More

We drove by the turnoff to St. Elmo on Monday and there did not seem to be anywhere near the same haze there is currently in the Denver area. It is a beautiful drive through the San Isabel National Forest. Watch for deer on... More
