The area
Neighbourhood: Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.

No dance partner needed
May 2016 • Friends
This is my second time visiting Zanzibar last time was 3 years ago. It is just as much fun this time as it was 3 years ago. It is a very social group you do not need to come with a partner. The pre dance lessons on Mondays are great, especially the intemediate Bachata. Cristian makes the lesson fun and you learn great moves. The dancers are more than willing to dance with new comers. The floor is a bit small but it works, just remember small steps. It is a safe place inside and out. There is good parking. I would highly recommend this for the salsa dancer.

Mad Morris the Friendship Breaker
Jun 2015 • Friends
We turned up to this dark pit of doom and from the off set could tell that it was full of fruit loops. There was a guy wearing moon pants spinning on his head and a wannabe Rastafarian painting in the corner thinking he's a Bob Marley Picasso.

The music was trance/house, perfect for those high on illegal substances. Not so great for those who aren't. Everyone looked homeless. We tried to make our escape, walking past the Crystals they sold on the way out. Sums the place up really. They didn't have wifi either. We ended up leaving in search of somewher else only to come across the a pretentious friendship breaker called Morris who was extremely persistent on his pursuit of my friend. Thus, I got annoyed and unfortunately took this out on my friend. My friend then got upset and was also annoyed with Morris.

What this story comes down to, is that Morris is a friendship breaker who only wants people to himself and couldn't handle the extensive years of friendship that myself and my friend had and still do, have behind us. Watch out for him on the streets of Beverley Hills and Santa Monica preying on young girls in twos. You've been warned.

Good for dancing, but drinks can be expensive
Jan 2015 • Friends
Came out here for the first time last Friday, and they were playing hip hop. No huge line to get in, which was nice. Enough people so that it didn't feel empty, but not so packed that we didn't have space to get our groove on.

We ended up in front of the DJ booth next to the stage and the VIP area--which wasn't occupied--so it was nice to put down my jacket and purse on the edge of the VIP platform. The staff didn't say anything, so that was cool. I hate dancing with stuff in my hands, and I was carrying my big work purse because I wasn't planning on going out that night. (We came straight from happy hour after work.)

Speaking of which--I wasn't dressed for a night of clubbing, either. But I felt fine wearing jeans and a long-sleeved cotton shirt and flats here. Some peeps were dressed up for a night on the town, but this place is casual enough where you can get your groove on dancing in nearly anything you like. :)

We shut the place down and even squeezed into the photo booth at the end for some silly pics.

Great place for dancing, fun to bring a group of friends, and the drinks and cover were kind of expensive. Cost me $70 for 5 Hennessy and Cokes, is that normal? I think cover was like $10 or $20, I can't remember. It's been a while since I've gone clubbing in these parts, so not sure if that's the norm.

I think some of the same beverages tasted stronger than others, but by the end of the night, I had a pretty good buzz, so all-in-all, it was a fun night!

The DJ Seemed Lost
Sep 2014 • Friends
This is one of the few "Hip Hop" spots in the Santa Monica area, and I was excited to be going with my brother-in-law, who was visiting from back east. Well when I got there the place was a little empty, which was fine because it was still a little early, and it also gave us the opportunity to figure out if we wanted to get a table, which we did. But I was little disappointed with the DJ because he was spinning a bunch of old school love type of songs. He barely played anything that was current and as the audience began to get into a song, the DJ would switch it up for another song. This was quite annoying. I wished they had a different DJ because I really would have had a blast. I think I'll hit up Hollywood the next time.

Not worth the time
There was nothing good about this club whatsoever. It was dingy, the bouncers were rude and the beer was literally flat. Only place with cover charge in the area that we'd found to date. Biggest waste of time and money, do not recommend.

dont even consider going
Jun 2013 • Friends
my friend and I just wanted somewhere to have a dance after having drinks and a meal out in Santa Monica on a Saturday evening. We were told this was "the place to go - amazing" by serveral locals,,, who I can only presume had never been anywhere else...ever. The bouncers were rude, the club was dingy and smelt weird and it was so dark we couldnt see a thing! the music was not dance music in any shape or form so even if we'd chanced breaking an ankle in the dark we couldnt as it wasnt appropriate. The only half decent thing was the speed of service at the bar, but maybe that was due to the lack of punters!
even accepting that the whole club culture is clearly different here, it would not go back here - ever!!
