Great Place
Nov 2019
This was a great place for a family gathering. we meet here a couple of times a year because we are so spread out. We gather a couple of tables and eventually everyone shows up. What we do is make our bets for the first 3 races so we can socialize for a while. The kids have a great time, we all do. It is so much fun when someone wins. $2.00 night is the best time if you have kids and lots of people. We love this place, just wish it was open all year instead of just a few months.

Acquired taste

The racetrack isn't for everyone, but if you like to wager, it is worth a visit. Entrance and parking were free for the Saturday night harness racing. The place has a suitable seedy feel to it, and it is not a family destination for sure. One of my horses won, so it all seemed worthwhile.

Horse Racing @ Cal Expo

Fun to try...AT LEAST ONCE... but It can get expensive... everything costs...parking, stadium entry, a program of who's running... Not a lot of food to choose from... if you sit in the "cheap" area... it's rather uncomfortable and can get pretty dirty and trashy by the end of the races... there used to be a restaurant that served up in the bleachers, but they were expensive and I've not tried it again in many years (if it's even still there)... there are people to help you place a bet and there's automated kiosks too... Don't look for warm and fuzzy if you don't know what you're doing... if you're really not into gambling, just wait and go during the State Fair... you can experience horse racing for almost free... But it is fun to try, not very lucrative for me... but I only place $2 bets...

Real Sad!
Apr 2018 • Solo
I Don't know how they can keep this place open! Was there on a Sat. night and if there were 40 people there that would be pushing it! Tote machines screwed me twice! Thy really didn't care! I wanted to see harness racing, but this was sad!

Quit Horsing Around
Aug 2017 • Couples
This track isn't one of the best in California as kinda mediocre horses run either harness racing or Thoroughbreds.

Best time to go is when the State Fair is going on and some decent horses come through.

Other than that and really always, if you're great at reading the race book, you're doomed. This is not Belmont where you can know and pick the winners. This is a "let your lady pick a favorite number or color" kind of place. The you scream, laugh and celebrate when red #17 wins by luck.

It is fun every once in a while.

Great experience, races are on time and mostly well kept grounds. People throw their ticket stubs on the ground a lot

We usually go on opening day and have breakfast and lunch at the
Turf Club with a good view of the track.

Fun during the State Fair
Jul 2016
A great way to start your venture to the state fair....lunch, a little gaming, winning and then venture to see the animals, art work, and take in the evening concert. We rarely attend the horse racing outside of the fair, becuase it is harness racing not thoroughbreds. Just personal preference

I didn't even know it was there!
Dec 2015 • Family
I had no idea that this place existed until I went to the Cal Expo for a winter event. When I saw it I was shocked. The place is nice. It's a very large and professional horse track.. Just like the others you see on TV, Santa Anita etc... There's betting just like at every other track too. Not sure, but if you look at their website you may even find they have "hot dog and a drink" deals too...

Fun time
Mar 2016 • Couples
Check out the horse races at cal expo. Live harness races or mixed breed during the fair including thoroughbreds. They have pretty much daily Otb betting. It's a fun time out!!
