Neighbourhood: Hollywood
Hollywood undoubtedly conjures up images of movie stars and high-end lifestyles, and to this day, tourists flock here from around the world to see the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre and to catch a glimpse of the famed Hollywood sign up close. Celebrity impersonators and crowds give these areas the feeling of an amusement park while many clubs and hotels fill up around the weekends for late-night partying - the Hollywood club scene is a haven for thumping music and table-side bottle service. But parties aren’t the only way to enjoy this area, many visitors come to the neighborhood to sit back with a picnic to watch a performance at the Hollywood Bowl and those looking to stay fit trek along nature trails in the Hollywood hills and in Griffith Park.

The CineramaDome, part of the ArcLight Theatres Hollywood location, is an incredibly unique theatre. Geodesic in design, it's a Los Angeles landmark preserved from the '60s (you can't miss it from the outside, right on Sunset Blvd.)

It's pricey, as are all ArcLight movies, but to me it's worth it ($18 and up). It's a beautiful theatre chain, with this Hollywood location regarded as its flagship.

The CineramaDome is an immense room, with (likely) hundreds and hundreds of seats. The huge screen is uniquely curved, yet this won't at all negatively affect your viewing from any chair (there really doesn't seem to be a bad row or seat in the house.) Seats are extremely comfortable, too!

Particularly if you're visiting Hollywood from elsewhere - with time for only one movie outing - I'd choose this theatre.

(TIP: scour the ArcLight website to see which screenings are at the CineramaDome - it will show the word "DOME" next to those screenings.)

See the attached photos, to give you a sense of both its character (even the restroom tiles repeat the geodesic imagery!) and its expansive, enveloping feel. A special treat for the movie fanatic your life!

Whilst we have some very nice movie theatres in Australia, I was not prepared for the opulence of this ArcLight Cinema complex. One could purchase light meals and alcohol in the little wine bar in the foyer and there was also places to purchase coffee, cold drinks and snacks. I wasn't prepared for the security but felt safer with that in place. The theatre itself was huge, the seating comfortable and there were no annoying advertisements that we have to sit through in Australia. Well done ArcLight, my husband and I enjoyed our experience.

Went with friends to begin the celebration of a birthday. We had chatted just a little with both the concessionaire and the ticket-taker about it being our friend's b-day.
It's standard at this chain for an employee to speak for a minute or two prior to the beginning of a movie (running time, parking validation, etc. - an overall welcoming vibe). In our case, the staff announcer must have gotten wind from his co-workers about our friend's b-day - he actually made a point to publicly wish them a very happy birthday! Unbelievably nice, and totally unexpected!
I'm not sure if this is standard operating procedure at Arclight, but that "going the extra mile" for our friend really was a special little treat! Overall, the theatre has excellent quality concessions, plush seating, sparkling clean restrooms, and a friendly, calm, positive staff - which are the main reasons we picked it in the first place. But to have them make such an effort to do such an out-of-the-ordinary greeting was truly astounding.
I've mentioned this to several coworkers - who assumed that we had asked staff to do this. Not at all; it was completely the idea of the very kind and welcoming staff who collaborated to make 15 seconds of my friend's birthday very unique. Thanks very much on behalf of my friend - who isn't a TA user, but was as equally impressed as I was!

I was passing through through LAX and had all day to kill before my next flight so thought I would go and catch a movie. I bought a ticket and a drink but when I tried to enter the theatre they wouldn't let me in because I had my backpack. Rather than try to accommodate me by offering to store it they turned me away and refunded my ticket saying it was a "safety hazard". What a joke!

This boutique theatre chain is by far one of the best. They pride themselves on quality and customer service and they deliver! The theaters are clean, high quality picture and sound, great programming, special Q&As with A-List Directors and Actors, and the rewards program is unmatched.

Hollywood premiers are the norm here at the ArcLight and anyone who is anyone has seen films here. The cinema is not only a staple of old Hollywood but the building is gorgeous. Beautiful, spacious, clean theaters and best of all ASSIGNED SEATING!

Hungry? If you have some time to spare before your movie, sneak over to the restaurant inside the theater for a quick bite. If you're seated, the server will ask for your movie time and pace everything out so you can still make your movie!

Helpful tip - Join their online membership club. You'll save a dollar off any film but will also gain points that go towards free popcorn and soda.

If you're an adult and hate being pushed and annoyed by a bunch of teenagers while going to a movie, this place is for you. You don't see the glow from cell phones while watching the film and they even have assigned seats. The popcorn sizes are smaller than most theaters, but tastes way better than AMC and Regal. Whatever you do, make sure you try the freshly made caramel corn. It is the best that I have had outside of Chicago! It has even been listed on the Food Network...it is that good!

My husband, my brother, and I were visiting LA for a couple of days this past week, and we wanted to see a movie. We decided to see "Portrait of a Lady on Fire," which was showing in the dome. The Cinerama Dome opened in 1963 but was renovated by ArcLight in 2002 - and it has a curved 32x86-foot screen! What a unique movie watching experience. I currently live in Nashville, which is an indie movie theater desert (we have one independent theater that shows indie movies, and it has two theaters and a tiny closet upstairs it calls a theater), so I blown away (but not surprised) by LA's movie theater options. And I'm glad we saw a movie at ArcLight. It's pricey (it was $18.50/ticket to see a movie in the dome - not sure if movies in the theater are the same price), but I had a great experience. You can validate parking in the garage for $3. The theater is FANCY. Real coffee!!! A little shop? It's nice, updated, modern, clean, just nice in general. The only thing is I wish there was more of an elevation to the seats in the dome - because we saw a subtitled film, and I definitely missed a few words because I could barely read them over the head in front of me (if you're short and seeing a subtitled film, you might want to sit in the higher seats on the balcony). But overall? A great movie experience.

Warning! - Don't ever speak Spanish here - Management and staff apply racist / discriminatory practices!

I used to love coming to the Arclight but after this weekend never again! My friend was speaking Spanish to her sister and a white woman started complaining to them, telling them to shut up and called them ignorant (for speaking Spanish!). Then, lied to management about what occurred what was the theater's next step? They pulled my friend and her sister out of the theater citing 'inappropriate behavior' when it was the white woman who was instigating the situation. Management said they were afraid that the non-white patrons would "escalate" the situation but when they were being called out on their own discriminatory practices Arclight said "we don't see color" - yeah right. That's why Arclight were kicking out the minority victims versus the white instigators. Thanks for contributing to part of today's problem's Arclight instead of being part of the solution.

We were staying at the W Hollywood Hotel and this fabulous movie theater is just a short walk away. The entrance is in the side and then to the back rather than where it apparently used to be in the front. The lobby is huge and contained several museum-like “sets” from the current movies showing there such as “Suburbicon.” We bought two tickets for specific seats at one of the many theaters for the movie “Lady Bird” — opening that night in L.A. and New York. There’s an open and very nice restaurant/cafe downstairs, and several snack concessions and a bar upstairs. All were open and heavily patronized by mostly young people. I’ve never seen so many ushers and security staff in a movie theater! Also, an usher stood in front of the audience before the trailers to tell us the usual message about turning off cell phones. There was no pre-trailer advertising. The seats and armrests were very comfortable. We had a hard time finding the tiny letters on the steps labeling the rows of seats although the seat numbers were easy to see. The screen was fine as was the sound system.
