Pet a Stingray!
Jul 2021
I went with my daughter and two grandchildren (6 and 11). It was great. Everyone loved it. One of the highlights was petting the Stingrays.

Awesome experience

Amazing aquarium with many coral reef display tanks and interactive fun stuff. Lots of staff to help you answer questions you may have. The seal tank is especially cool and the souvenir shop doesn’t disappoint. I always get a magnet and they had a great selection.

Everything you need to know before going to the Aquarium of the Pacific
– Make sure to plan your visit ahead and purchase your ticket ahead of time too! I’d suggest weeks in advance, they do well out fast! Everyone must have a timed ticket or online reservation before coming to the Aquarium.

– Bring your masks! All guests ages two and over are required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth at all times. The Aquarium requires both vaccinated and unvaccinated guests and staff to wear a mask both indoors and outdoors.

– Numerous hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the Aquarium and near any touch area. Remember to use them after touching a surface.

– As per usual, visitors who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, fever, or recent loss taste or smell are asked to visit another time.

– Aquarium staff will be constantly sanitizing all touched surfaces throughout the day.

– Shows, mascot appearances, and behind-the-scenes tours are temporarily suspended.

– Take a water bottle, touch less water bottle refill stations will be available.

– It is HOT this summer, wear sunblock!

– Pack a picnic or purchase from their food concession stands.

– Bring a light sweater, it gets chilly indoors!

– Wear comfortable shoes, there is tons of walking.

– If you park in the parking structure across the street, be sure to bring your ticket to get validation at your exit. It’s only for a few hours, be sure to pay before getting back into your car at the first floor of the structure.

– If you or your kids plan on touching the shark and rays, bring an extra change of clothes, sometimes they wave back and splash you completely!

Very good
Needs more exhibits. Also, more hands on experiences for the young. Buying online tickets is a plus. Once you get there, you don’t have to wait on the lines.

Pleasant experience, even for "big kids".

For the last 25 years, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has been my benchmark for rating others. The Aquarium of the Pacific holds it's own in the competition, as it has a small aviary also. Wonderful varieties of sea life to view as well as good penguin and seal exhibits.

Aquarium trip
It was my first time at the aquarium and it was during COVID restrictions so I want to just have that little disclaimer. I’ve lived in So Cal for almost a decade now and haven’t been there so I took my teenage daughter and we made a day out of it.

The ticketing process online was pretty straight forward. There is also a large parking garage adjacent to the aquarium that is convenient. I did notice it gets full by lunchtime so it would be best to get there early. We had no problem parking.

There is a nice piece of artwork/monument just outside the entrance that simulates the sound of the ocean; it was nice.

Once you go in, you are immediately greeted with a large lobby and a large whale hanging from the ceiling. There is a large tank at the far end where most people start. Overall the aquarium had what you would expect as far as exhibits. One thing I didn’t realize is that the aquarium is somewhat small, but don’t let that fool you. It had plenty of things to see. The seals and penguins were a highlight. This aquarium also has the most, by far, exhibits of jellyfish I have personally seen. I also really enjoyed the “Blue Revolution” movie in the theater on the 2nd floor.

The aquarium had several places to eat or get a snack. They also had a relatively large souvenir store and I felt it was reasonably priced.

I did it stop to read everything but it still took a couple hours to walk through.

Just be advised there is no re-entry, and don’t forget to get the parking discount on your way out that will save you a dollar. Back at the parking garage there are pay stations on the 1st and 2nd floor but you can also pay at the exit.

Overall a great little experience for the aquarium

We also did the harbor tour. The only negative thing I can say about this was the condition of the boat, it was old and rusted. Now let me preface this, I felt the boat was safe, just not in the best looking condition as compared to the other vessels the company had. The crew was great and pointed out key things in the harbor.
