Overview
More
The Ocean Institute is open to visitors daily; weekdays, 10 am - 4 pm, and weekends, 10 am - 3 pm. As school children are engaging in ocean science and maritime history programs on weekdays, a smaller portion of the Institute is open weekdays and most of the facility on weekends. Enjoy hundreds of marine animals in aquaria, ocean-themed exhibits and take a tour of a tall ship. For an extra charge, take a tall ship sail or whale watching cruise.

We stopped off here while visiting Dana Point. This place was a sweet little hidden gem. We took a tour of one of their old time cargo ships. That was really interesting. We all learned something new. We also enjoyed watching the octopus getting fed....More

very small but hands on place with different species of fish and jellyfish. Collection of whale bones and skulls. The outside area has a variety of cactus and great views of the ocean. The price was too high for such a small place.

The volunteers and staff are knowledgeable and friendly. You learn about lots of ocean life as well as currents and surf. There are scheduled lectures by both locals and experts on all subjects including the whales that pass by on their migration. Well worth the...More

The volunteers and other educators here are wonderfully invested in the welfare of the ocean and have become well-informed and able to educate visitors. This is a beautiful installation, quite accessible with good parking. We were able to touch living starfish and a sea cucumber!

This small research and educational foundation does great work educating young people about ocean life right here. The displays are modest, but filled with examples of creatures found right off the beach, and further out. There are short guided tours geared for kids, but informative...More

The Institute offers very informative displays of marine life and the boat excursions are excellent, especially the bioluminescence cruise. Membership is reasonable and offers many extra perks.

OCEAN INSTITUTE, Dana Point Harbor, CA! Just look for the Tall Ships, close to BABY🏖BEACH! The Iconic PILGRIM entered Dana Point Harbor in Sept 1981, it's a full-sized replica of the Original Pilgrim built in 1825! Also docked in front of the OCEAN INSTITUTE, is the "Spirit...More

Took our 3 grandchildren there and didn’t realize it was so small. The boys got bored very quickly. The ticket price is not bad at all for how small it is.

Our friends got married and had their wedding reception here. What a great venue! The crowd of 150 was seated between the different sea life learning areas, facing towards the ocean, while the happy couple took their vows. After the ceremony, there was a bar...More
