The High Place of Sacrifice gives a wonderful outlook over Petra. The hike is not strenuous if you are of average fitness, but best avoided if you have trouble with your legs. If you make an early start, you will avoid the hottest part of the day. If you make the climb in the late afternoon; you will get a beautiful view of the sun setting over Petra.

My favourite hike in Petra. Simply fantastic, amazing. It is quite hard and it is almost all under the sun. It is not busy, so less shops, less tourist and the chance to admire the landscape without all the mass of people. It starts close to the restaurants and it finished close to the amphitheatre. I think this loop is easier than the opposite direction.

This hike is a solid one but not one too difficult that should be avoided by those who don't regularly exercise. The view points from above are bar none (believe it's the highest point in the park) and you can literally see everything below you, sans the Treasury.

We hiked this on day 2 in Petra. It is a beautiful view from the top. We hiked the back way down. I highly recommend this trail. Do it in the morning and you will have the view all to yourself.

We took the back way and it took about 2 hours to climb up but the views were spectacular. We then took the shorter route down by the theatre and saved a lot of time.

It is off the beaten path and doesn't take long to walk up to the top (approximately 20 minutes straight without stopping).

Spending view while drinking a nice tea/coffee at the shop & enjoying with locals. 😀😍

Admirer la vue tout en dégustant un thé/café à l'échoppe & échanger avec les locaux. 😀😍

素晴らしい景色を見てお茶やコーヒー飲みながらやヨルダン人と話して遊びます。😄😍

What a wonderful experience! However you could find it a hard climb (I am 75 and in pretty good condition but found it tiring at times). Best done early morning or in the afternoon as the sun is setting (but don't leave it too late!)

A wonderful walk up the stairs to the top and then down through the valley including the most amazing tea stop on our holiday so far. The walk isn't easy but it's totally safe.

It's a fairly vertiginous hike up but so worth it if only for the views. Get to the shack up there, buy a bottle of water and then settle down on one of the rugs at the cliff edge that overlooks the Street of Facades and just take a moment.
Do then continue on along trail as it's surprisingly quiet, takes you past plenty of Nabataean architecture that you'll otherwise miss, across Wadi al Farasa to finish up at the restaurant just in time for beer and food. I guarantee you that not only will you see a lot, but you will feel that you've actually achieved something too.
