My husband and I visited Little Petra in the afternoon and found it to be relatively empty. It was a very nice visit because we didn't have to deal with crowds. I definitely recommend a visit to Little Petra. The rock formations are beautiful.

It is a small scale than Petra but still very interesting to see. There are lots of carving along the path. It is also easier to walk along the path and see some of the stome chambers.

The other end of Petra, entrance to the Monastery side, a small number of shops and stalls, car parking, entrance to Little Petra (use your Jordan pass). We got the jeep to the start of the hike (5JD each) (otherwise a 2 mile hike), then it was a long hard hike up and down lots of uneven steps, fine if you're young and fit, not so good if you are middle aged and out of shape (like me!) We didn't make it all the way to the Monastery, but saw some great views.

We visited Little Petra, also known as Siq al-Barid early in the morning and enjoyed strolling through this is Nabataean site. As in Petra the buildings are carved into the walls of the sandstone canyons. It is free entrance - you need 30-60 minutes to complete your visit. In the middle of suq there is a small biclinium which can be reach by climbing around 20-30 steps. It has some rare surviving Nabataean paintings on its rear wall, and so it is called the Painted Room. Opposite the room on the north is a large cistern, part of the water system built by the original inhabitants. Well worth a climb.

Place not that crowded as Petra itself, but maybve it's because I was there quite early. After seeing Petra, Little Petra does not make a huge impression. Good trekking shoes are necessary, as steep and slippery rocks are to be climbed to reach the view point. Some moments might even be dangerous. Buth when in Petra and wanting to squeeze as much as possible - step to Little Petra by.

Not much to see here after seeing Big Petra. Few vendors, merchandise not good, mostly closed. Not worth a separate trip.

I met Abdulla at little Petra. He was an awesome guide. He showed me through little Petra, we had tea with a Beduine friend and he was my guide the next day to the monastery. If you want to hire him :

Hi Hannah.
I didn’t pay anything to get into Little. Petra but I did show my Jordan pass, although to be honest the guys at the entrance didn’t seem that interested.

Hi, We plan to go to Little Petra in early January 2018. Our plane arrives at Queen Alia Airport at 12:30 noon. We will pick up a rental car from the airport to drive to Little Petra directly. We estimate to get there around 4:00pm in the afternoon, would it be too late? Is there really an entrance gate to be locked at sunset at Little Petra? Thanks for any tip in advance!

4pm would be too late as it gets darker early in January. You may not be able to explore the area fully.

hello,
We are a group of four visiting Petra in October and would like to hire a guide to walk from Little Petra to Petra and hire a guide for Petra as well.
Can you/anybody provide recommendations for a suitable guide or how to engage a guide?

You don't need a guide for Little Petra it is only a couple of hundred metre long. There are locl guides just after the car park if you really want one. It is far to far to walk to Petra itself, took us 15 mins on the coach.
