This beautiful church was not open the evening we were in the city, but the architecture and location was beautiful. A wonderful location within an easy walk oof two hotels and the main intersection. A nice quiet place to sit and reflect.

Beautiful Church built just around the riverbend. It has great view of wide river and the iron bridge that crosses it. If you stop by Selfoss you must pay a visit. Expensive restaurante in Hotel Selfoss nearby but cheap places to eat too like Subway or a Hotdog hut.

Beautiful church in a wonderful location on the edge of the river......take time to visit a typical Icelandic house of prayer.

Selfoss was the biggest town outside of where we stayed in Iceland, I was continually drawn to the park at the edge of the river where you can see the church across the way. It is such a pretty little area.

This was right near the bridge entering Selfoss. Great photo op. The river runs right by it. Easy to get to from the main road.

My wife and I could see this church outside our room. We walked over to the church a took photos all around. This church was locked, but I believe this church inside and out is typical of the other churches as far as structure outside and inside.

This church is visible from our room in the Hotel Selfoss. The simple but unique steeple really made the church special. It really stood out as part of our view. Unfortunately, we weren't able to visit the interior.

My son suggested we stop here. Again in the rain but very picturesque and they found a tunnel under the church! All in all very informative about he religious history of Iceland.

It may not seem like much but it was the spiritual, cultural, and political center of the whole island for seven centuries! There have been seven churches built on the site that the current one stands on. Go into the church and make a quick left to go downstairs to the museum. It costs 5000 ISK but it is worth it. There is a cement casket down there with some juicy explanation of who was in it when the church burned down (it's burned down twice). Also, go over to the dormitories next door because there are some very informative plaques on how the students lived in centuries past and it is information that you will not run across anywhere else. It's fascinating.
