Undaunted (well, maybe a little bit daunted) by the website stating they're currently closed other than to groups of 15+, I emailed the brewery and was told I could drop by and knock on the door and we could do a tasting if anyone was available. This ended up being a highlight of the trip as there was no one there between me and my companion, and we tasted all the beers in which we were interested, got a tour of the brew room, and even tasted a new beer right from the fermentation tank. They loaded us up with swag and more beer than we could actually carry, which we ended up sharing that evening with our nearby B&B owners. I can't say you'll have the same experience we did, but the people are friendly and there's a wide range of quality beers (even for a US beer snob). A bit out of the way, but definitely worth a visit if you're in the Selfoss area.

We visited as a group of 16 in July. This was one of the highlights of our visit to Iceland. One of the owners gave us the tour and explained the brewing and bottling and labeling process. We tasted many beers (some straight from the fermenting tanks). Everyone enjoyed the beer and information. Very friendly fellow and we highly recommend arranging a visit to this great craft brewery. You will need to schedule in advance. Be sure to sample their Lava Beer. It is one of the world's best oatmeal stouts!

A group of my friends and I booked a tour just for our group (there were 11 of us). The brewer was very accommodating, and our guide was the brewmaster himself. He explained the history of the brewing operation, told us about the brewing process, and gave us ample beer samples, some straight from the fermenter. It was a great tour in a beautiful countryside setting (from what we could tell, since we arrive during the remnants of Hurricane Matthew). I'd totally recommend this for beer adventurers.

If your the type of person who likes to get off the beaten path then this brewery is for you— also if you like beer this brewery is for you. Just about 10 minutes outside of Selfoss lies this awesome microbrew. You drive down road 303 off of highway 1 and you wonder where you are driving. Eventually you get to this barn and you park. There are no signs that it is a brewery until you get to the door. Walk in and it is a very cool, friendly environment. Their lager was one of the best I’ve ever had. One of the brewers was the guy serving us and he told us about each of the beers, Iceland and the history of beer in Iceland (or lack there off).

Highly recommended for beer lovers and those who like to see the none touristy side of Iceland.

Nice local brewery with tasty and intwresting beers. We were with 5, and tried quite a number of beers, ranging from normal 'ales' to dark smoked Imperial Stouts and IPAs.
Very friendly staff adviced us very well o what beers to try (given our preferences) and had a nice chat about Iceland, other breweries etc. The beer was amazing!!!
Also gave us some advice on worthwhile places to visit around the area, where to go and where not to go.

If you like beer and want to visit a brewery, highly recommend this place!!!

Their california steam beer is magical. This is an off the beaten path location, but the tasting room is a great stop and they are friendly.

A truly fantastic place to stop for a beer or a flight of 4 or 8,
Located around 2 km away from the ring road in a old farm.
The have 8 beers on tap and a decent selection of bottles as well.
This is about beer and nothing else which i love. Super friendly staff and great beers. A must visit if you love beer and breweries.

This brewery doesn't look like much from the outside and is a bit off the beaten path, but the inside is lovely, the service was fantastic, the beer tasty. We had a great time and are glad we went!

Don’t be put off by the drive up a farm road or the appearance of the place when you first pull into the driveway, it’s an old dairy farm so you may think you’re at the wrong spot. Olvisholt is a seriously good brewery. Located off of the Ring Road (highway 1) near Selfoss, Iceland, Olvisholt offers a variety of its beers in a small tasting room with a bar and a lovely bartender who speaks fluent English. Two beer that particularly impressed me were Olvisholt’s famous Lava smoked imperial stout (9.4%). A stand up beer with a slightly smoky front end and a very smooth finish. I was so impressed I purchased two bombers at the duty free shop on my way out of the country. The other beer I especially liked was the Pink Lemonade IPA (4.8%). Despite the name, the beer gave off only a slight sourness but a full, refreshing flavor. I can’t really stop at two beers when the others were also very good. The Mori red ale (5.5%), the Hel porter (7.0%) and the Freyr hefeweizan all scored 4.5 out of 5 on my taste-O-rater. Any one of these beers would be a hit in the craft beer crazy U.S. and definitely worth the short drive out of Reykjavik for a taste.
