We have been here every evening of our visit. There are a variety of swimming pools for serious swimmers and playing as well as a range of different temperature hot tubs, a steam room and sauna. Tickets are over 1000kr an adult but you can buy 10 for just over 4000kr which makes it great value if you’re staying in Selfoss. Children 10 and under are free! Also a great place to see Icelandic culture, and for kids to meet Icelandic children.

If you are travelling with kids and the hot springs don't sound like fun, the local pools like this one in Selfoss are the place to visit. With a very high regard for cleanliness, you have to fully shower with soap (provided) before entering the pool and upon exiting there is a zone for drying off before the change room along with a bathing suit dryer. Shoes are taken off outside the entire change area so bring flip flops. Kids are free and you can stay as long as you want. There were several pools indoors and outdoors. We were there mid-week and the shallow indoor pool was completely empty. The bigger pool had a class of students and the outdoor pools were amazing. Only a handful of people, we spent most of our time in the shallow pool which was 34 degrees, it had 2 smaller slides for toddlers and a big slide.
We could have spent all day here, sitting outside in the very cold weather in a warm pool was fabulous.

Contrary to famous Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon, public pools like Sundholl are budget friendly, giving you similar treatment (in some aspects even more), if you don't mind ordinary tile pools surroundings instead of fancy lava stone around you.
During our Iceland holiday we've visited both, Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon, as well Laugardalslaug in Reykjavik and Sundholl public pool here in Selfoss, so I can tell and will point out the differences.
The first most obvious difference is the entry fee:
- Blue Lagoon 80-100 $ pp depending on the time you visit, for the basic experience including entry fee, one drink and one face mask,
- Sky Lagoon 50-60 $ for a basic entry - no drinks included nor rituals,
- Laugardalslaug in Reykjavik and Sundholl in Selfoss 9$ (up to 15y and over 66 free, 16-17y 2$).
The second obvious difference is in Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon you'll see around 95% tourists, while in public pools that percentage goes for locals.
In all pools it is mandatory to take a wash and shower all naked (without your swimming suit). There're separate men and women areas and you rejoin your party after that in the pools.
Speaking of Sundholl it's located in downtown Selfoss, a small southern town with almost nothing to do, so we didn't hesitate coming here.
The complex consists of one smaller indoor and several outdoor pools.
I suggest first going to a big swimming pool with lanes and temp around 28-29'C.
For me this was very important as I could properly swim in hot water. Remember, in Lagoons you cannot swim, and it gets boring when you only sit and stare in hot water.
Beside this pool, there's another shallow pool for kids with slides.
There are several big hot tubs with temp ranging from 38 to 42'C and a cold dip of very few degrees (highly recommended).
Besides all these, there's a very fair size steam room and sauna.
I cannot attach any photos as it is forbidden to take your cell phone or camera into the pool area (you must leave them in the lockers), contrary to the Lagoons where everybody's taking pics.
To conclude - Iceland public baths are a much better option if you don't mind the ordinary, people's scenery around you.
This one in Selfoss is the best option to relax after all day out and before going out for dinner.

What a great place, more a local swimming pool that tourist trap and therefore a fraction of the price! Spent a lovely afternoon here and the kids (3 and 2) loved it. Great kids pool 35 degrees, there were slides and toys as well. There are also indoor pools if freezing your head while cooking the rest of you isn't your thing. For the really keen there's a lane pool, but there are also steam rooms and 38-40 degree pools, next to a rather large cold plunge bucket (for want of a better description), after you!

This is a combined swimming pool area and a fitness center. The swimming pool area contains four swimming pools. Indoors there is a particularly heated infant pool and a 25-meter competition pool. Outdoors there is 25 meters of competition pool and a children's pool. There are water slides in the children's pool. There are three hot tubs outside and also two tubes with cold water. A sauna and steam bath are by the pool area. Good facilities are available for sunbathing during the summer. The changing rooms are new and everyone can get a lockers. Soap is free for all showers and you can wrap your swimsuit and dry your hair in the area.

Stay away from the blue lagoon, these are the places to go bathing in Iceland (public pools).
For 900 ISK per adult, you can enter the bath, there is a big dressing room, with lockers and a big shower area!
After a thorough shower, you can choose between many pools and pots. Two pools inside and one larger outside, also four or five smaller pools with different temperatures! All geothermal heated!

We visited this outdoor pool with our two kids and had a really nice time.
One big 25 m pool at ~25 degrees, one big kids area with two small slides and one big slide.
Two hot tubs with 38 and 40 degrees, steam bath and cold tub.
Inside are two pools, one for swimming one for kids.
All is clean and well equipped.

Bad weather cancelled our ferry to the Westman Islands so we decided to spend part of the day at the Selfoss municipal pool. It turned out to be one of our favorite activities in Iceland. Due to the weather, we thought we’d stay in the indoor pools, but when we saw all the locals outside we went out and joined them. There are several pools and they vary by size and water temperature. There is also a steam bath and sauna. It feels SO good to float in a hot pool when the weather is cold, windy, and rainy. And it was unexpectedly great not to have chlorine in the water. There are enough pools that they never felt crowded and there were bathers of all ages. No one was unfriendly but people generally kept to themselves.
We later went to the Fontana baths which were lovely, but all of us preferred the Selfoss municipal pool. It was not at all touristy and much less expensive. It’s on my must-do list if I’m lucky enough to be in Iceland again.

I was excited to try a local community seimming pool in Iceland. The ebtrance is cheap, the showers are hot and clean, the changing rooms have no privacy. The ehole place is clean and well organised but seems to take to 1970, about the time the pool was built probably. I guess zhe culture of a swimmimg pool visit is different here, the pools inside are small, outside it is pretty cold unless you stay in the hot tub the whole time. There are slides for all ages, but don’t expect too much. My kids were happy in the outside pool as well as inside, but for me there was no place to sit and relax, read a book... I don’t mind spending time in the water, it just easn’t ehat I expected. I guess in Iceland you come, bathe and leave. It was interesting listening to people chat in the hot tub, I couldn’t understand anything but it was amusimg anyway. No food in the pool facility.
