About
You can boil an egg and have a taste of our hot spring bread which is baked using the geothermal steam. Do not miss the geyser that erupts frequently in the park, and make sure to take a look inside the greenhouse.

- Amanda RLondon, United Kingdom74 contributionsDon’t expect too much. Not a complete waste of time; if you go with children they may want to cook the eggs over the steam. The pools have all dried up since the last volcanic eruption in 2008. You have to buy the lava bread. The geyser goes off every 20 minutes; we were lucky and caught it when we arrived. Interesting local history information though. Children will like to cook their egg in the geothermal oven, but extra cost!Dear amandarZ8267OJ, Thank you for visiting the Geothermal Park! We are happy to stopped by and that you also took the time to write a review. However, we are sorry to see that you rated your experience so low. The intent of the park is to help visitors understand how the park has been used for over a hundred years and now the borehole at the park is the main hot water source for the village and the reason the village was originally built. Unfortunately, like you said, the water is no longer visible in some of the springs due to a big earthquake in 2008 and many, many smaller earthquakes in 2011. Unfortunately, we don't have any control over nature and we hope that someday we will get our water back. But as previously mentioned, we keep the park open to help educate visitors about the use of the geothermal energy produced there and are happy to see that you enjoyed the historical information provided :) Of course we have to charge for the bread we bake in the geothermal steam and also the eggs as there is a cost for us to purchase these items. We find that the price we charge is quite low, 200 kr for bread and butter, and 100 kr per egg. Boiling eggs in the hot springs can be enjoyed by all people young or old. We hope you enjoyed your time in Iceland! - RIchard035Northwood, United Kingdom1,184 contributionsSmall geothermal parkThis is a small geothermal attraction in a residential district of the town. There is a small entrance fee. You can buy eggs at the cash desk to cook in the thermal springs. There is a geyser that erupts every few minutes and a number of thermal pools. To be honest, this as good as some of the higher profile thermal areas, albeit on a smaller scale.Dear guest, Thank you very much for visiting the Geothermal Park and for taking the time to write a review! I'm so happy you enjoyed your visit! We were staying close by and felt we shouldn't skip this - so glad we didn't! A well laid out path has historical information boards which were of interest to us, maybe not everyone. Some great photos of bed being baked etc. The geological explanations were also interesting, how an earthquake changed the areas springs. We didnt have time to boil an egg or try the cafe but we did hang around for the reliable geyser, every 20 mins or thereabouts and was an excellent surprise! Made us jump and was more impressive than the one we saw at the Geyser park (maybe unlucky there). Not a beautiful place but definitely intriguing.

It was interesting to see but, sadly, at the time we went the pools had dried up due to a recent earthquake and I believe also a disturbance of the water table. The area is very nice however with lots of fumaroles and a great public pool.

I mean, this is ok, but compared to everything else I have seen on iceland, definitely ok if you miss this, especially if you go to Geysir.

Reviews are very mixed on this but I enjoyed it for a modest entrance fee! The egg boiling & mud foothbaths are great gimmicks to maintain interest in the site after the earthquakes of 2008 caused the hot spring pools to dry up. Also, the Geysir is artificial & is actually a borehole to maintain tourist interest. I think the site remains interesting though as you get the chance to look at empty hot spring pools. If you have already visited Geysir before here, you already know what full pools look like. My egg was over cooked because I spent too much time looking at the information boards lol. Still tasted nice with the lava bread though. Didn’t have time to take a foot mud bath, as the site was closing soon for the day otherwise I would have done!

This is a charming little park that you must pay to enter. There is a real, active (and impressive) geysir on site as well as thermal water which you can cook eggs in and a thermally heated greenhouse. They also serve bread that has been baked in a thermal oven.
There are interesting signs explaining the sites and history - ideal for families and those wishing to pass a bit of time. Those who have given negative reviews have unfair and high expectations - it is just a cute, small municipal park. The lady who works at the front desk is very helpful and kind.

Lovely little park, it’s cheap and quite sweet, boiling an egg and getting to enjoy it on bread later is a fun touch that just made this an overall enjoyable experience :)

Boiling an egg and eating it with delicious hot spring-baked rye bread and butter. The geyser here goes off every 20 mins and is at least as impressive as the one at Geysir, Strokkur.

Don’t expect too much. A geothermal site were the water drained and is now mostly empty craters. After seeing the before photos I am disappointed I missed it in its heyday. That being said, people seem to really enjoy boiling the egg and eating the lava bread. There really isn’t much else. Honestly, of all the things I did in Iceland, this is the one I would have skipped to do something else.
