We travelled from Athens by train and spent three nights doing the Sunset tour, a half day hike and some independent walking. The place is extraordinary: semi functioning monasteries perched on impossible pinnacles and hermit's caves in unscaleable rock faces. The monasteries were beautiful, particularly when viewed from a distance. One or two (St Nicholas and Gran Meteora) projected a little spiritual aura but mostly inside they were rather crowded being tiny and very popular. The sunset tour was in the company of hundreds of people and vehicles. But despite these problems, the beauty of the location and the absolutely unique mix of geological features and charming rather gothic structures make it well worth a visit.

The real joy of our trip was the half day walk through the rocky landscape past an abandoned monastery and up to Grand meteor with a knowledgeable guide and pleasant companions. Best of all was the evening trip we made by ourselves up to the hidden chapel of the Holy Spirit and out onto the top of the pinnacle for sunset.

On our final day we had a meal at Val Calda, which specialised in Vlach cuisine. It was a delight.

We enjoyed the train trip and all the arrangements worked really well thanks to the team at Visit Meteora.

Our tour picked us up at our hotel in Kastraki. We booked the 9 am 1/2 day tour AND the sunset tour and though the weather did not cooperate- our tours were AMAZING! We learned so much about the history, the geography and the local connection to this amazing area. I cannot give higher praise for our knowledgeable guide and our driver- this was one if the best tour experiences our group has had and I highly recommend this tour when you are in Meteora. Again the weather was the absolute worst, but the tour was AMAZING!

We booked the two day tour that included transportation to/from Athens, a sunset tour of Meteora, a night at a hotel in Kalambaka, and a half day tour the next morning. Visit Meteora was well organized, the tour guides and drivers professional, and the reservations department prompt to answer questions over email. While we, and probably most travelers, would have preferred the train ride, the company replacement bus was comfortable and the ride went faster than we thought. On the second day, it rained. In the few days leading up, we were watching the weather forecasts and thought rain might ruin the trip. However, it was a blessing in disguise as the rain brought fog that transformed the valley. The ethereal mist swept through the rocks and monasteries, views changing by the minute. It looked like something out of a fairy tale. After the half day tour that ended around 1pm, we found ourselves just killing time, waiting for the bus ride back at 5:30pm. We wish we could have returned to Athens earlier or had some other activity to fill that time. All in all though, it was well worth the trip.

Visit Meteora Travel created a custom package for 3 friends and I that included private transfer from Athens to Kalampaka, first class rail tickets to return to Athens, 3 nights in a beautiful hotel with a great breakfast, a private sunset tour with a visit to a monastery and a church (plus more), private hiking tour with amazing views and a visit to one of the monasteries (and more), and a private food and wine tour through the stunning countryside. We visited quaint villages, enjoyed delicious food and wine and our guides, George and Evan, were sensational. It was by far the highlight of our journey in Greece. George and Evan were so knowledgeable on the history of Meteora and Kalampaka and were so very friendly and accommodating. The tour representatives (George and Georgina) who created our itinerary and assisted us with our tours and tickets did a fantastic job, were quick to respond to questions and ensured everything went smoothly. I highly recommend Visit Meteora Travel! Meteora is not to be missed!

We took the tour at the end of Sept 2022 while staying in Athens. After discussing with my other 2 travel partners we decided to book a 1 day tour through Visit Meteora Travel. The booking process was great and the gentlemen at the other end of the booking was excellent in making the arrangements and answering our questions before hand.
It was a long day having to be at the train station by 7 am. The trip into Meteora from Athens was via train and was excellent. We did not upgrade the train ride and as long as you bring snacks etc you will be okay. Seats were comfortable and ride was smooth going through the country side there is lots to see.
Once in Meteora we met our tour guide, a young lady who was nothing but excellent. I am sorry I forgot her name but she was one of the best tour guides we have ever had. As part of her thesis during college she stay approx 3 months in one the caves. Her knowledge and ability to convey that to our group was beyond expectations. We started by visiting a location where a monk (who our guide has knew) was living on the side of a cliff in isolation for many years. This was also in the area where out guide did her thesis so you can imagine the knowledge and passion of our guide at this part of the trip.Afterwards we headed to visit 3 monasteries which was just amazing. Along the way we had plenty of opportunity to stop, take pictures and learn about the area. The visit to the first monastery was a difficult go for my wife as she has asthma but our guide was responsive and did not push us. After the first monastery visit everything went well. It should be noted that the guide does not join you when visiting the monastary but more that sufficient time is allotted so you can get a good understanding of each place.
Once our tour was finished we were taken back to the train station and given about and hour to visit before the train back to Athens. There are 3 bakeries across the street from the train station so yo could load up on some nice treats. The one that sells the chocolate baklava was the best only issue is the lady behind the counter could not speak English. I definitely would go back just for the baklava.
Train ride back was uneventful and gave a person an opportunity to decompress and just sit back and take in everything we saw.
Highly recommend best tour we were on throughout this trip.

We did the Hiking and Scramble Tour of Great Saint and it was the best day of our holidays in Meteora. Our guide Kostas is an amazing man, he told us about the history of Meteora and the Great Saint rock tower. He made a lot of jokes and he took a ton of nice photos of us. It was really a pleasure to have him as a guide.
We would recommend this tour for people who are not afraid of heights and did some hiking in the mountains before. The tour is not exhausiting (it takes you 2,5 hours round trip) and you are safe all the time, but if you have trubles with heights and hiking, then you won't enjoy it. But if you are an adventorous soul, then go and book it now!

**And if you are staying somewhere around Meteora, ask the owners of your acommodation if they offer some discount. Some of them offer it.

My first ever outdoor climbing adventure could not have been better than what I experienced here. I started my journey in Kalambaca and stopped right after exiting Kastraki. There, we climbed up a cliff which led to a beautiful panoramic view of the town and the monasteries of Meteora. I was up there with Kostas, an experienced climber and also my tour guide. He is a fun yet precaucious person, who made sure it was an experience to remember. I had an awsome time climbing in Meteora. Bet the person who read this comment will too.

This was the most amazing site I viewed in Greece. We booked a 2 day tour with Visit Meteora and it was fantastic. It included train fare from Athens, hotel room, and 2 guided tours of the 6 Monasteries which were very impressive. Seeing these buildings which were built on huge rock formations was mind boggling. This is a must see site

Great tour experience. We took the 4 day/3 night package but you really only need 3 day/2 night package to see all the monasteries. The Tour included 3 star hotel of the tour comany choice. We were stuck in Kastraki Hotel which is a nice hotel but away from the main town of Kalambaka for good restaurants and night life activities. That required taxi to go anywhere. I recommend insisting on a hotel inside Kalambaka to avoid that hassle

This was a small group tour of 3 Meteora monasteries. The small tour bus (approximately 9-12 passengers) picked us up at our hotel. Before visiting the monasteries, we made a first stop at a small chapel with a view of the Meteora cliffs where the tour guide gave us some history about the region. Our tour guide was a local to Kalambaka/Meteora so was very knowledgeable and talked about some of his childhood memories of the region. We then proceeded to visit 3 monasteries along with making a stop at a great lookout point. I was very glad to be part of a smaller group and really enjoyed the info provided by our tour guide. We visited the interior of the monasteries on our own with an allotted amount of time for each one before getting back to the bus. All in all it was a great experience and I highly recommend a trip to Meteora and a tour with Visit Meteora!!
