Ushuaia day hikes in Tierra del Fuego
Jan 2020
Ushuaia is where the Andes finish. To get views of this and surrounding coast was breathtaking. Patagonia has many beautiful areas for hiking. Trails can be busy though. If you choose the right hike here, you will be rewarded with a quieter and more peaceful hike.

The best way to get the most out of Tierra del Fuego in Patagonia is to do a full day trip with 2 adjoining trails described below.

Senda Costera Trail: This hike is 7.5km one way and takes 2-3 hours. The cheapest and easiest way to arrive is by the shuttle bus that is around $900ARS return ($15USD). See Google Maps below. Arrive at the main bus station the day of, for a 9am bus. The bus takes you to the National Park Entrance Office where you get off to buy a day’s pass for around $600ARS ($10USD). Subsequently, you get back on the bus that takes you to the start of the Senda Costera Trail. This actual hike isn’t the most extraordinary. But we were able to hear Woodpeckers throughout. More importantly though, the hike finishes at the start of the incredible Cerro Guanaco Trail!

Cerro Guanaco Trail: This hike is 15km return and take 4 hours. It's one of the most underrated in Patagonia, let alone South America! You will start this around midday. It is a tough hike upwards. Also, it gets fairly wet and sludgy nearing the end. But is totally worth it. Gorgeous views of the Andes and Beagle Channel await you!

The return bus to Ushuaia will pick you up from where this hike starts at the Lago Roca Visitor Centre.

Beautiful Country

Drove around the park and immediately saw a red fox! then on down to the world's most southern post office. Quaint...worth the peek.

Amazing scenery at the 'End of the World'
Feb 2020
A friend who was going on the same Antarctica cruise as us, had booked a half day trip to the National Park so we decided to join him. We were collected from our hotel in a large bus which travelled around the various hotels collecting people for the trip. Arriving at the ‘End of the World’ train station we couldn’t believe the crowd, but in no-time we boarded the train. The train was very comfortable, even though it was fairly crowded. We were provided with ear plugs to hear the stories of the early prison life and the harsh life they endured. The scenery with the mountains in the background and some areas which resembled bogs in the foreground, was spectacular. It was so peaceful travelling through the forest stopping at some lookout points.

Then we caught a bus which drove us through the National Park, stopping at various points of interest along the way. Stopped at two beautiful lakes which were very picturesque on the beautiful sunny day. We managed to see black geese and a rare colourful Kingfisher. Finally, we drove down to the sea and returned back to our hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our morning outing, made even more so with the sun shining all the time. (Lucky for us),

Breathtaking views, beautiful nature
Apr 2020
We had 1 day to spent in the National Park since we arrived by cruise ship. We had contacted Ruben (ruben-ushuaia@hotmail.com) for a full day excursion. He was taken but his sister picked us up in the morning outside the port. She was very friendly. First we went to the Lago Escondido and we had several photostops along the way. It was breathtaking. Our next destination was the Natural Park where we had different stops : Bahia Ensenada, the most southern located post office, Lago Roca, Laguna Verde, Castorera, Bahia Lapataia. She took lots of pictures, always willing to help us. She changed the order of the stops to there were less people, which was fantastic. To end our beautiful day we had a city tour. We were back on time in the port. It was a wonderful day with breathtaking views.

So much to see and do!
Mar 2020
Established in 1960, this is Argentina's first shoreline national park -- and the world's southernmost national park. It is positively overflowing with forest, mountains, lakes, rivers and glaciers.

Here are just a few of the attractions:

* Centro de Visitantes Alakush: The park's visitors center [see my review, "A river runs through it (almost)"]

* Senda Paseo de la Isla: A low-difficulty hike (see my review, "Island pathway")

* Laguna Verde: A green lagoon (see my review, "Green with algae")

* Senda Castorera: A quarter-mile hike (see my review, "Beavers. Damn!")

* Bahia Lapataia: A bay at the end of the Pan-American Highway (see my review, "End of the road")

* Bahia Ensenada Zaratiegui: A bay, technically outside the park (see my review, "Spectacular view")

* End of the World Post Office: The southernmost post office? (see my review, "Really special delivery")

* Senda Costera: One of the park's most popular walks (see my review, "A walk on the wild side")

Truly magnificent.

This National Park is so incredibly scenic. It has it all, Snow capped mountains, pristine forest, rivers, lakes and wide open valleys. We did a half day tour from Ushuaia which allowed us a stop off at three different places in the park including the post office at the end of the world.
This is a must do and if you have the time go for a full day trip so that you can take it all in.

Amazing Scenery in a Tranquil Setting
Mar 2020
This is a must see place when visiting Ushuaia. The Tierra Del Fuego National Park has amazing scenery not matched anywhere else on earth. At times it is breathtaking as you marvel at the lakes, the snow capped mountains and the splendour of this place and is more enhanced if you manage to have a sunny day. A whole day can be spent here soaking-up the atmosphere of this place.
It is worth ending the day by taking a trip on "The End of the World Train", a miniature railway taking you back in time. A lovely way to end a visit to this fantastic place.
