This place and it's talented performers touched me deeply. I not only learned a great deal but was moved by the entire experience. Do NOT come to the Hoedspruit area without planning a visit to Nyani Cultural Village & Roots of Rhythm.

First always phone the attraction before visiting .They no longer run it every day as some of the websites advertise. We were picked up from our safari lodge to go to this absolutely fabulous show about the Shangaan tribe. I play the Djembe and wanted to see a traditional group using these type of drums. I wasn't disappointed. The performers were astounding. Quickly changing costumes through out the show singing, dancing even including a bit of comedy when the Scots in their kilts came on. After the show we walked down to the Nyali village where there was a bit more storytelling and then the traditional meal, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I did pass on the Mopani worms. I would highly recommend this show, and stay for the meal.

As a trip of degree students looking to have a fully immersive experience I am always wary of these shows. BUT...the setting is beautiful. There was a warm and friendly welcome. The show was energetic, fun, educational and memorable. We were even invited to 'bust a few moves' at the end which students loved (so did staff secretly!) The explanation of village life afterwards and the meal was a great touch. The village is not sold as where the people actually live but as a genuine mock-up and I really appreciated this. After the food we inadvertently found ourselves with various drums and Niko, one of the performers, tutored a load of our students in drumming and rhythm keeping. Again, a storming success and no one wanted to leave! Thanks for a fab day.

We visited Nyani village on our first morning in Africa - what a start! So much energy, creativity and musicality. We loved it! The experience took us through the history of various tribes, the importance of the 'village' and community and gave us a taste of African tribal life.
Despite the rain (it really didn't matter) we had a brilliant, brilliant time. The staff, especially Maureen and Basil, were so kind and helpful and the food was great.
I thoroughly recommend this show.

We were looking for authenticity, this is a recreation of a village...they tell you the history of the peoples of the recreated village, but these are not authentic people living in an authentic village living an authentic life. ALthough the show was good, food was eh (skip lunch) the village Wart Hog was a treat.

Hello Audra, I am so sorry you were not informed in advance that we are not a grass roots experience. Our Nyani Cultural Village is designed to tell the history of the local Tribes; Their journeys, challenges and conflicts, through story telling, song and dance. For anyone reading this review it is essential that you know that all the Tribal Villages used for Tourism, are not actually inhabited by residents. I sincerely do not want future guests to have expectations and to leave disappointed because they were misled. Our Nyani Cultural Village Experience is educational, entertaining and informative. It is based on historical facts and hopefully brings to life the culture and customs of the local tribes in a safe and authentic setting. Please do not hesitate to contact me +27 83 785 5354 for more information.

Our time at Nyani was terrific!! We were there with a group of Rotary Exchange students and they were well into the singing and dancing. The performers, in a small village setting, put on an energetic and engaging show, telling of the migration and history of their tribe into the area, demonstrating customs and village life (one young man from the group got "married"), and helping us to understand their culture. It was delightfully entertaining and informative. At the end, we had a meal prepared by the women, eaten with fingers, and I actually tried one of the famous Mopani worms! The enthusiasm of the performers was catching and everyone ended up singing and dancing! This was a recommendation by the Lodge, and it was fine advice!

This is a must for anyone visiting the Kruger area. It is under-priced and over delivers.
The energy and enthusiasm of the performers would not be out of place on a West End stage and the visit to the village is informative and fun.
To give you some idea of how good this experience it is my two kids (9 and 12) rated this show as better than riding, brushing and meeting elephants earlier the same day!!

I cannot recommend this highly enough, it has to be one of the hidden gems in the area.

Perfect!!

Our family really enjoyed the cultural show at the Nyani Cultural Village. The performers were all very enthusiastic and welcoming and made a wonderful event, even with a small audience. The dances, songs, custumes are authentic and all tell a story. There was interaction with the visitors, both during the show (drumming, dancing) and during the village tour, where the stories were told of marriages and daily lives in the tribal villages. We also had a very delicious lunch, in the traditional way. Some cooked worms are part of it - which you may or may not try. It is a show to be visited! Personally I found it difficult to find out how to book a show, but Maureen Lahoud is the person to contact. She is an excellent coordinator and quick to respond. maureenlahoud@gmail.com / +27 83 785 5354

We booked this show, hoping to see some African dancing and we got a whole lot more!
What amazing energy these young people put into the show. One would have thought it was the first time that they had done this - They put everything into it and was amazing.
This is a MUST if you are in the area!
