Decided to hike up and down Sani pass in preparation for a upcoming hike. It took us 2h30 going up and 1h30 coming down. The weather did change all the time, so raincoat and something warm is a good idea.

We took our Toyota Prado to the Sani Pass summit recently. A great day trip that shall be long remembered for the adventurous drive and the spectacular views. Fortunately it was a fantastic day, clear skies and sunshine. Given the poor state of the road,...More

4x4 required, one of the best things to do when you're in Drakensberg area. We drove the pass ourselves and as a unexperienced 4x4 driver it was extremely exciting! A must do if you're adventurous!

The road up Sani Pass is in a very bad state of repair although they are working on it. Would not attempt it in bad weather

Sani pass remains one of the scariest passes in Africa. At certain points looking down is nearly vertical next to the road, and some of the hairpin curves need reversing to complete. But the mountains remain magnificent as is the highest pub in Africa on...More

You should be fine. We went up in a convoy of 3 X 4 X 2 Toyota Fortuners. It was slightly slippery but we all made it without too much hassle. The only time you really need to worry is when there is snow around making it... More

I would recommend you getting in touch with Stewart McClean 082 742 6981 or Neil Prior 082 2134795 and see what they can offer you. I was impressed with their service at very reasonable rates. Both are from the Hinterberg... More

Definitely not. Best in a proper 2 x 4 or 4 x 4. ground clearance, low range, traction and stability is very important.
