We drove up Hatcher Pass to see the Independence Mine not really knowing what to expect. It was very fascinating and interesting to wander around the gold mine town and see all of the old buildings which were all labeled with great placard information talking about the history of the gold mining era.
It was raining the entire time we were wandering around but it’s definitely a fascinating place that we would recommend taking the time to drive to and spend some time exploring the area.

This was an afterthought, but we were nearby, so stopped by. We were very happy we visited as this was well worth the stop? There is a self guided walking path through the areas of the mining community. Very informative! Highly recommend a visit!!

It was pouring rain, but still fun to see. Would have been a 5 if there had been more buildings open and/or guides.

This site has a great blend of restored and ruined buildings. Plus, they have done a great job presenting the information about how the park operated and the workers lived. Very fascinating. And if all that is boring, you can just walk around with your mouth agape at the stunning views and scenery.

I thoroughly enjoyed Independence Mine. I had to wait a year to go up to the mine itself. So interesting, a lot of information of a time gone by.

We visited the mine recently and took the tour offered. Our guide was a local high school student and she was very good. She was enthusiastic about the history and very knowledgeable. In taking the tour, we had access to several of the old buildings and got to see and understand the history of the mine. I would recommend this attraction if you are in the area.

This a very nice place to enjoy the beautiful Alaskan scenery and a bit of its history. You can walk and spend as much time as you like walking around and reading about the history of this old mine. The dive up is also very nice so well worth a visit.

We visited right after the park was just open for visitors and enjoying walking around and learning about the site. Views of the valley were stunning too!

Went the week before the official “open” the season and still a little snow left. Fantastic history and a really cool vibe. Definitely worth the drive. The views are nothing short of breathtaking

This is a preserved in place form gold mine "town" that shut down in the 1940s. While some of the buildings are falling down, much of the town remains as it was. It is extremely educational and very picturesque- a must do!
