This art gallery is housed in the old airport building, which is a lovely example of local, white stucco and red tile roof Colonial Spanish architecture, which closed in 1958. There is some very interesting art inside, too.

This is a small art museum at one end of Parque La Sabana that I almost didn’t go to - I’m so glad I did!! The art was contemporary and well worth a look - Costa Rican artists. Also the building is the old San Jose Air Terminal and is itself definitely worth a look. I spent well over an hour here - it was relaxing and just a nice place to hang out for a while. The former executive lounge on the second floor was quite wonderful. If you like modern art and architecture don’t miss this. It’s also free!!!…

We enjoyed visiting this free art museum. It features Costa Rican art. The art was very colorful and interesting. The building used to be the terminal for the San Jose airport. Upstairs you can visit the business lounge with beautiful carved walls depicting Costa Rica’s history.

I highly recommend visiting the art museum. Plus, it borders the large city park, which makes for an interesting walk around its grounds, watching local kids play soccer, families picnic, and folk jogging or walking around on their lunch breaks. The museum itself is not large and to me a very digestible amount. Often museums can be so large, with so much on display, that you barely get to see it all, not to mention feel a bit worn out. The wood carving room is incredible...go upstairs and check it out. I didn't find San Jose a particularly pedestrian-friendly city - busy traffic, motorcycles zipping around every car in traffic, and very few if any cross walks!! The local norm seems to be to play frogger between traffic lights and look disdainfully at oncoming traffic as they zip toward you. I stayed downtown at the Autentico and it is walking distance to this museum, with slightly less than normal pedestrian panic relatively speaking. I found a sky bridge not far from it, which i highly recommend using. This was free admission, donations accepted. What a great little museum. Check it out.…
