Overview
More
This park contains 11 different ecological habitats and is a sanctuary for nesting sea turtles. Situated on the Northern Caribbean side of Costa Rica, in the province of Limon, it is approximately 90 miles northeast of the capital city of San José. Accessible only by air or water, Tortuguero is the most important nesting site in the entire western half of the Caribbean for the green turtle. It is known as “Tico Amazon” (Costa Rican Amazon) due to the fact that in Tortuguero there are no roads; the principle means of transportation being the dozens of fresh water canals throughout the park.

It´s important to bring boots specially when it´s raining, there are a lot of water everywhere and too much mud.

Can highly recommend taking the boat rides into the channel through the jungle, you can see so much wildlife (tucans, monkeys, sleuths, snakes, iguanas, crocodiles, and more) just sitting in the boat. Take a good guide to help you spot them, as they are not...More

One can see a great deal here. It is rugged, and it is challenging; but it is well worth the effort.

The best place to view wildlife in Costa Rica. It is true rainforest untouched by commercialism. Get a naturalist guide and you will see the camoflauged animals of the rainforest!

A wonderful boat tour with our really knowledgeable guide Xavier made for an incredible, always fascinating adventure in which we saw so many birds, butterflies, and reptiles. Breathtaking, awe-inspiring and we learned so much! This tour is a MUST!!!

You cannot walk from Parismina to Tortuguero, but you can get there by boat. There are boat taxis available and would not be too expensive.
