Overview
More
This park contains 11 different ecological habitats and is a sanctuary for nesting sea turtles. Situated on the Northern Caribbean side of Costa Rica, in the province of Limon, it is approximately 90 miles northeast of the capital city of San José. Accessible only by air or water, Tortuguero is the most important nesting site in the entire western half of the Caribbean for the green turtle. It is known as “Tico Amazon” (Costa Rican Amazon) due to the fact that in Tortuguero there are no roads; the principle means of transportation being the dozens of fresh water canals throughout the park.

Birds of every colour and much more besides. If you are lucky enough not to have constant rain....but even if it does pour down it is worth seeing.

The amount of motor boats running in the park kill part of its beauty. The forest is beautiful and populated by lots of animals. The little village of Tortuguero is a nice stop and walk but not a place to stay.

Highlight of my trip. Could easily have stayed another couple of days kayaking through the canals. Awesome wildlife!

Go in the summer to see the sea turtles laying their eggs. it is an experience you will never forget. Go in the fall/early winter to see the eggs hatch and the babies make their way out to sea.

You will be astounded at the quantity of wildlife. Find yourself a guide to find turtles hatching or go for a canoe ride around the canals. 15 usd gets you into the national park but bring your binoculars and wellies as it is very boggy.

Canal tours by boat as there are no cars on Tortuguero. You will see iguanas, toucan, parrots, howler monkeys and maybe a sloth along with many water birds. Very interesting ecosystem with superior guides. Loved it!

You’re in a group of about 12, with a guide (Marco was excellent; having met two of the other guides I realise we were quite fortunate). About two hours of exploring the wildlife on the canal - sometimes referred to as a miniature Amazon cruise....More

We took a quiet canoe tour through the park. The kids (10 and 12 ) loved it. Great to be in a boat with no motor. Lots of birds and wildlife to see when your motor isn't scaring them away. We same crocodiles, iguanas, a...More

The Tortuguero NP surely is one of the MUST SEE’s when you are in Costa Rica. But be aware: it is not a zoo, meaning: you have to be willing and prepared to look for animals. We have talked to many people who just rely...More

You cannot walk from Parismina to Tortuguero, but you can get there by boat. There are boat taxis available and would not be too expensive.

Hi I booked a trip from the UK. It will have been more expensive than the one Jessica booked. I stayed at Laguna Lodge. It's a beautiful National Park - ospreys and turtles hatching on the beach. Enjoy your trip
