    Wonderful guide to exotic animals
The park is a fabulous place to see a vast array of exotic birds, animals, insects and plants. Don’t miss getting a great guide, as we did in Justo Lopez. It’s well worth it! He’s at jupalori@yahoo.com & Facebook and instagram. 506.8778-8438

    Touring around
A hotel is located in lovely gardens with lots of wildlife flying about. The rooms are basic, no wardrobes, no drawers, no hairdryers. Food is average . Ate there 2 nights. Easy to walk to the local town which is colourful at night and very vibrant. The area is known as little Jamaica and it has that feel about it as you walk around, you can access the nature park at the end of the town. Beautiful beach also there

    Lovely Place to Explore
Totally recommend spending some time in Cahuita National Park. Tons of treasures to be seen - plants, animals, the beach... Recommend hiring a guide to show you around, without ours we would not have seen nearly as much wildlife.

    What wrong with people?
This community and park is spectacular!! But it appears there is a large number of tourists who are so ignorant. You are visiting here treat other humans with respect ....and for goodness sakes in the park recognize you are in another environment of living breathing animals/insects/reptiles etc...be mindful you are disturbing them in their home!!!

A good day to spend when people are on a cruise.
The excursion to the park was very interesting. Our guide, Juan Carlos, was very attentive to details as to the description of customs and the local fauna. We took a long walk on the forest. We stopped at a fruit vendor place where we could buy coffee and other souvenirs. After the walk on the park, we were taken to a restaurant to have lunch which took a lot of our time. My husband and I would have liked to have gone to a restaurant by the park so as to be able to go to the beach. This was supposed to be part of the tour. We appreciate the curtesy and happy attitude of our bilingual guide and driver.

    Cahuita National Park
While visiting Cahuita, we explored this incredible park in the morning. It offers a truly unique experience as you can stroll along the beaches and through the forest while observing a variety of wildlife. Our long walk allowed us to see numerous animals and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. If you happen to be in the vicinity of Cahuita, I highly recommend taking the time to visit this park - it's definitely worth it. Although there is no official entrance fee, a donation is appreciated.

    Worth the visit
We came here on a tour from our cruise ship. We had a wonderful guide who took us into the park where we saw monkeys and sloths. After the national park, we went to a different area of the park that was along the beach. This was a very nice walk where there were similar animals but much more. The beach area by the park was very nice with a restaurant near the beach entrance. Do not forget to spray with insect repellent. You will need it when you walk through the national park with all the trees and foliage.

Costa Rican wildlife at its best!
We explored this small but beautiful National Park with a guide from Cahuita Tours (and our 7y old son). We went for the hike only tour (and passed this time for the snorkeling opportunity which was offered as part of a package - although it might have been quite an experience with the local coral reef). The hike itself is rather easy and can easily be done alone as you just need to follow the single track. However, the guide helped us finding the animals (especially the smaller ones) and he gave us extra background information. We had a very successful day and saw a lot of animals, including different monkey species (howler and capuchin monkeys, both from a very close distance), different types of snakes (including a big boa and the venomous yellow eyelash viper snake), different lizards and iguanas, crabs, butterflies and other insects, gold orb spiders, a raccoon and its funny Coati brother and of course some sloths. Except for a beautiful eagle, we didn't see a lot of birds though. Please make sure you bring enough water and mosquito repellent. At the end of the approx. 8 km walk (4km one way to the Punta Cahuita which is the return point and which you need to pass before 2 pm), we treated ourselves with a refreshing dive into the warm Caribbean sea!

    Great National Park to visit
Great National Park to visit at the caribean in Costa Rica. Is you have done snorkel before at the caribean sea the place is not a must. Better if you pay for a guide to show you the animals through the trail. You will see so many that otherwise you wont. Try to get there early because they start to close at 2pm, bring a towel, water and a lot of repelent. Have fun!! Pura Vida!!

We were incredibly lucky to meet Richard at the gate, he’s a general guide, which means he knows all there is to know. He is so incredibly knowledgeable and was able to answer every question we had. We paid him $50 for 2 hours of hiking (about 2 miles).
We saw monkeys, rare birds, a sloth, and more (my photos don’t do it justice at all). We learned so much about Costa Rica’s wildlife!
Not only is Richard incredibly knowledgeable, but he was so kind and his energy and personality alone is worth what we paid.
If you’re looking for a guide, definitely ask for Richard; you won’t regret it at all!

Be careful with the guides at the entrance of the park and choose well. I Had Bad luck with a Rasta (Eder?). While we were in the Park he turned his back to me several times and was busy with doing something he wanted to hide. Then I noticed that he was drugged. Obviously he hit lines during the tour. Aweful! I felt very uncomfortabel. When we were back finally, he made comments about my appearance and wanted to know If I am travelling alone and why. I really felt harrased. Then He wanted to show me the "real Cahuita" for free. No need to say that I didnt spend a second longer in his company.

The actual national park is stunning and truly is one my highlights of Costa Rica so far. However, there are some really important points that I am disappointed about that I feel the national park authority really need to address:

I booked through Juan Chipan (aqualung), Chipan Tours, and I wasn’t really happy with the way the guide interacted with the environment.

He didn’t once tell people about how fragile the coral reef ecosystem is, he didn’t say that people needed to watch out and make sure their fins didn’t hit the coral as they were swimming, there was no brief whatsoever about protecting this environment or about how important it is. When he dived down he held onto bits, and whilst he was being careful, he really shouldn’t be doing this; it leaves a bad impression on tourists who might think it’s okay to do this too. This needs to be regulated, it needs to be compulsory for tour guides to provide their clients/tourists with the appropriate brief to ensure everyone respects the ecosystem. I didn’t feel our tour operator did that at all, and this isn’t good from an educational point of view, nor from the point of view of protecting the environment/ecosystem.

I was also really disappointed that the use of certain sunscreens isn’t regulated. As a scientist who researches the effect of sunscreens for a living, I know how important it is to ensure people only use natural reef safe sunscreens, not containing BP-3, avobenzone or octocrylene etc. There was a small sign at the entrance to the national park that stated people are encouraged to use alternative sunscreens, but no one was listening - the whole of my group besides myself and my father were using chemical based non-reef friendly sunscreens containing BP-3, Octocrylene and other unfriendly reef chemicals. This is really disheartening, as if this isn’t regulated, the reef will begin to see the effects of this type of pollution too.

We have chosen to visit the Cahuita National Park with a guide. Not because of the route, because it is very easy. Namely, only one route through the Cahuita National Park runs to a road on a path between the sea and the jungle, but without a guide you just walk past most animals without seeing them. .🦡 🦎 🦥 🐒 🐜 🕷

We got the tip to go with Justo Lopez. A very sweet and friendly guide who spotted many animals for us. Even other guides came to ask him where the animals were. You can contact him at his mobile phone 506 87788436 / 506 27550344 or by email jupalori@yahoo.com.

Cahuita National Park is perfect for Wildlife to spot. We saw many sloths during the walk. The trees are full of winding monkeys and also the raccoons have crossed our path. It is also the perfect place to see snakes and other reptiles. Especially the bright yellow, green or brown vipers are unique. We have seen the very toxic Yellow Viper twice. This Eye Lash Viper is quite small but very interesting. The part that she makes unique are the protrusions above their eyes that appear on eyelashes. I

Without the guide we had never spotted most animals. The Brown Vine Snake, also known as the Liana Snake, hardly stands up even in the photo. This hose is very slim but can reach a length of two meters. Because he is smaller, he mainly eats little animals such as lizards, birds, frogs, small mammals and insects. The poison of vine snakes is effective in small prey, but it has not really shown a problem for people. 🐍

It was a very easy walk but lots to explore! The wildlife and plants were incredible and you had the waves of the sea always in the background. The beach was stunning and provided a wonderful backdrop.

Loved the marine and land experience with the animals. We began with our snorkling and saw parrot fish, nurse sharks, a ray, sea urchins and more--many species of fish were visible in the clear water.

Taking in the coast of the park from the reef was a bit surreal because it is literally like a stereotype of a deserted tropical beach--white sand, clear turquoise water, palm trees and the jagged silhouette of the jungle behind, with the jungle sounds. Exquisite.

After snorkling, we were dropped off at a point and then walked back to the park entrance for about 2 hours, leisurely, sometimes popping into the sea because it was irresistible and the path was parallel to it.

On our walk, we saw capuchins including babies, howlers, sleeping owls, toucans, lizards, raccoons, agoutis, a yellow viper snake and some other type, leaf-cutter ants, huge ant hills, other birds. Gorgeous flowers and mature jungle trees.

Bring water to drink and sunscreen! Walking in water shoes and our bathing suits was fine (it really is the jungle so you need foot covering). Binoculars would be helpful.
