Neighbourhood: Xintiandi
The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park provides the area with green space and is also home to Shanghai Fashion Week twice a year. It’s not all glitter and glamour, though, as the rise of Danshui Road has given the Xintiandi area a shot of toned-down character. Small bars and cafes, mostly owned by locals, have people hanging out in a formerly quiet, unassuming part of the neighborhood.

This is a smallish museum located where the people who started the Chinese communist party first met to plan its creation. While there is a fair amount of decent historical data both written and pictorial it is also a propaganda piece for the party. You can see the rooms they met in and the furniture they used. They conveniently leave out the info on the millions that died to create this political movement. It gave me chills to read about the movement and think about the horror they perpetrated upon their own people. This is definitely for history buffs and not your typical tourist.

How ironic that one of China's most important communist sites is located slap alongside one of its trendiest and expensive shopping and eating areas -French Concession . Well, that's a free-ish market for you!
This is a gem of a museum. Biased, of course, but then anyone who thinks that western museums aren't presenting history from their biased point of view is wearing blinkers.
Sufficient detail leading up to the first meeting in 1921. Enough English to know what you are looking at and how it all fits together.
Free, just need to give up a finger.

If you happen to be in the area, it's not a bad idea to stop by this little museum. Packed full of information, it will give you a very solid (but obviously biased) account of the birth of the Chinese Communist Party. All information is in Chinese and English.

This is nothing too special but it is a nice little bit of history to be at the very place the Communist Party of China held its first meeting almost 100 years ago. I wouldn't take a detour here but if you are visiting the Xintiandi district (and I recommend you should) then it is worth seeing.

Very interesting stop and multiple wall signs to read (in English as well as Chinese) to help understand the significance of the birthplace fo Chinese Communism Party. Life size statues of 13 first members of Communism Congressional Mtg where they were all sitting around a table, kind of like being there. Our tour guide did a wonderful job explaining important things about 4-5 of the most key members

Easy access (by fingerprint, for a foreigner, otherwise ID card for Chinese citizens), no fee. The museum is located on a small street closed to the traffic, within minutes of walking to Xintiandi area or subway stations.
Important landmark in the Chinese history, it lets you dive into the society from almost 100 years ago, to understand the background and the further events. It was easy to navigate along the exhibits (most of them with English details, some of them in Russian). Try to avoid being around the guided groups (in Chinese, not sure if available also in English), it can get really crowded.
All in all, I spent some 30 minutes inside.

Huge improvement to the museum that it was two years ago. Now there are more detailed information of the founding of the party. I was positively surprised that all the information ( who joined, who left, what happened) played in the museum openly.
As mentioned two years ago the museum had basic information but it did not cover the event with such accuracy.
Very interesting to visit if you want to know what happened and who where there.

Very nice building and well-organized. Relatively easy to get in (no need for passport - they only scan your finger print) and a lot to see

If you have a chance visit nearby do drop by this free admission museum and really learn how the most important part of China formed. There is x ray screen at entrance and would not get queue up too long.
