In the five months I spent in China, this museum was the most awe-inspiring and astonishing place I visited. I went there so many times that they gave me a membership card. I would sit in the room with the huge statue of Kwan Yin and meditate at least once a week. The hundreds of statues of Buddha were just amazing artwork. Do not miss this most beautiful place in Shanghai.

The location is on the outer suburbs of Shanghai.
We spent half a day over there. The place is big with lots of halls for exhibits. We didn't visit them all. The most interesting one was the maze, our kids had fun running into mirrors. The hunting for alphabets was fun for the two 5 year-old girls too. The glass making demonstration was a bit too hot for us in the blistering summer. You could also make your own glass products at the DIY house.

A fascinating museum and would recommend to anyone who appreciates beautiful glass works..... I loved it, wasn't planning to visit but saw it and thought it would be interesting, and am every pleased I did. The glass works in the museum are absolutely stunning and there's a shop and cafe on the ground floor that are also worth a visit.

This place is cool, not in a super accessable location, but worth the trip especially if you live in SH. It's one of the better museums I've been to in the city. The translations are good, layout/building are cool, and they have good displays. There is a mix of science, history, and art. Plus they do a glassblowing/glass molding performance where a guy makes a couple pieces for a crowd. The address on here is wrong though, it is in Baoshan District.

If you're able to get here, it's worth the trip. That being said, I wish this museum was not located in the fringes of Shanghai because it's really well done -- from the interior design to the level of the exhibition design. They have informative videos on how glass is produced and also offer a quick glassblowing workshop (to watch, not to participate in) as well as some highly intricate and beautiful fine art glass works.
