Fascinating way to learn about China’s history! Option to buy great gifts / souvenirs
Address is 726 Yananxi Rd, if you Didi type in Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre. It’s on the 7th floor. Beautiful collection with descriptions / history to help you learn more about China’s past. There is a lovely souvenir shop where you can buy very affordable replicas, or invest in original pieces. The owner is very kind and can help steer you in the direction of what you’re interested in.

    Fascinating Museum of Chinese history
The Propaganda Poster Museum is a very special place. I never thought there would be a place that conserved chinese history so well. There are a lot of explanations alongside the posters and you can really feel that the owners put a lot of thought into the display. At the end of my visit I got the chance to talk to the owner who was very kind and gave me some deeper explanations on the posters and Chinese as well as Shanghainese history. If you’re interested in Chinese history and want to understand their view on the world more you should definitely visit this place!

Propaganda posters: Tucked away museum, small space but interesting exhibit
Small museum tucked away inside building without much obvious signage to help. However, once found it, lots of exhibits categorised into eras/subject. Interesting for a look through for most people, I feel for those highly interested in the subject there's lots to dig through. Paid for ticket on entry.

    Quirky museum, worth a visit
I wish I had read the reviews. They would have saved me a lot of time trying to find this small quirky museum. Thankfully, the journey was worthwhile. The posters depict the flow of history in the 20th century and they can be appreciated as art in their own right.

    Exceptional must see visit
Must see visit. This museum is the result of the work of a single man who collected these original posters. These are witnesses of times gone but give a glimpse of times gone by. The museum is small but has a good sample of what was used at the time to manipulate the people. Since this museum is the initiative of one single, very nice, man, one should visit it as long as it lasts. Fortunately he produced several booklets with photos of these posters. The place is not easy to find as inside a big building but with some patience one can get there.

All was excellent. Yet, I bought a package of postcards, but only 4 out of 25 turned out to be real postcards. The rest were just photo prints. Check items carefully before purchasing.

Didi navigation knows the place but it's a non-descriptive office building and the museum is located on 7th floor. Posters / pictures with Chinese and English context are provided and super interesting to see how these supported the various themes throughout China's 20th century history! Takes 30 min but worth visiting. I walked from Jing An temple here in 15 min.

So interesting to see. Amazing pieces on display. Even has whacky N Korean propaganda magazines from the 70s published in English and French. The proprietor, Mr. Yang, is also a very gracious host. An extremely nice man with a fun story or two himself!

This museum documents an important period of modern Chinese history and is truly worth a visit. The narrative explains: "... most of the posters were destroyed due to different political changes in the past years". However, a collection of some 6000 pieces has been amassed.
Conditions of entry into some Shanghai museums are currently unclear or unpredictable. For this place, however, no prior reservation is necessary (November 2022), it is open Tues-Sun, 10:00-17:00. An entrance fee of Y25 is payable at the door.
It is a few minutes' walk from the Jing'An temple - continue westwards down Nanjing West until you come to the major road that bears the Yan'An viaduct. Turn right and follow the viaduct westwards for a few blocks, until you arrive at No. 726 (a tall office/apartment block). The guards on the door will let you in and show you towards the lifts that you will take to the 7th floor; then go to room K. You can also come at it from Jiangsu metro station (line 2), walk south to Yan'An Xi Road and turn left.
There is a gift shop which does not sell the usual kitschy junk but, inter alia, reproductions of the posters.
