Top ways to experience The Bund City Sculptures
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.

A must visit, for sure, but I keep returning to take in different angles each time. Get inside where you can and slowly take it in and study whatever is available there.

There are sculptures of every shape and size. Gardens of flowers and waterscapes that make up the walk along the promenade. The building on the Bund and the Pudong side are the architectural contrast between new and old.

not entirely sure why a typical European waterfront should be such an attraction, but pleasant enough for a stroll and views of the newer buildings

We spent a little bit of time walking about in the Bund area. Lots of solid English style buildings that reminded me of the older parts of Sydney town. used to be the financial centre in the past. Shanghai has grown a lot in the last 25 years but was great to see the preservation of this part of the history of the city.

Most people who visit Shanghai want to see the Orient Pearl, Shanghai Tower, and the Pudong skyline, but don't overlook the incredible old buildings on the city side of the river. Such a wonderful collection of classical, Gothic, Roman, and Baroque structures, many dating back to the early 20th century! Whether you visit during the day, or night when they are lighted, they are awesome to see.

Sculptures usually tell a history of the place they are placed, but I guess Shanghais history is so blended that the statues kind of feel out of place.
There is a Mao statue right at the center of the Bund and further down there is a big bull. Not sure what the bull is doing there, and maybe I just know the story.. but you will find these all over town.
