Enjoyed the night tour so much that I booked the breakfast tour immediately. Because, let's be honest, you can't visit Shanghai without fully sampling all the local culinary delights that are on offer and there are plenty. Also because I have a friend who really recommended I do this particular tour. This time I had Jim show me around and led me to a variety of hidden cafes and street food stalls. I got to try lots of delicious dishes that I would not have been able to access myself. I also had a specific request to try out sheng jian bao and he was able to accommodate this during the tour. I can't thank Jim enough for taking the time to show me around and sharing his knowledge with me. If you are going to book a food tour - let it be this one as you certainly won't get an authentic experience as this elsewhere.

I had a great time this evening exploring local Shanghai cuisine with Luo Ding who kindly showed me around to sample a range of delicious dishes. He also gave me a lot of information and interesting anecdotes regarding Shanghai culture. It was a very relaxed time and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is looking to explore food culture.

100% RECOMMENDED... First off, normally I do not like food tours. I find them cheesy, often lacking information, and, even more lacking in actual food. BUT THIS TOUR was PERFECT! I met Jim (plan your location early as it can be confusing for some) and we were off to wander around the French Concession neighborhood. Since he only does small groups, it was great to chat with him (for me I was lucky to be the only one!). He explained so many things about the food, why people seek it out and the challenges and opportunities within Shanghai regarding the cuisine. I was stuffed by time we were done, thank goodness there was a good amount of walking between a few of the stops. I also learned about the neighborhoods and communities we were walking through. Some of it was already covered on a prior walking tour - so I could have almost done this tour alone and learn so much about "Local Shanghai".

I 100% recommend this tour with Jim - or even the night tour. It's definitely more "brunch" than breakfast but the food was amazing! ((And for all you picky eaters out there - there was nothing really "adventerous" about the food, just good local Shanghai cuisine.)) ((For those adventerous eaters, perhaps ask Jim in advance and maybe he would find a thing or two!))

An absolute must when you visit Shanghai. Given it’s the biggest city in the world it can feel overwhelming. Given a lot of people don’t speak English finding an authentic experience can be a challenge. Shanghai Foodie takes of that for you. We were told to book a food tour by a relative who’s been before and so glad we did.

Not only did we eat amazing food but we got a tour of the good parts of the city and learned a lot about Shanghai culture.

Jay was an amazing host. Took care of us all evening. The tour made our trip to Shanghai. Thank you!

A great tour and a great insight into a little piece the Chinese culture. I think food tours are a great way to sample some interesting food and to also learn about the area and city from a very knowledgeable guide. I ate some great food, learned about the area and culture and had a great time.

Although we are familiar with Chinese cuisine, we wanted to learn more about authentic Shanghainese street food. We enjoyed our tour with Vena from Shanghai Foodie. Vena brought us to very local food shops, places that we would not have discovered for ourselves. We had a tasting menu of noodles, shanghainese pork chops, various kinds of dumplings, buns and even a selection of teas. All very delicious and we were very full and had to turn down Vena's suggestion of lamb skewers. Vena was very attentive and when we asked about Shenjian bao, she took the initiative to order delivery of these as the place was a bit too far for us to cover. After the tour, Vena emailed us with a list of other food places to try. We would definitely recommend you join this tour as it gives you a further insight into Shanghainese cuisine and culture.

We had a great tour with Jimmy - he patiently waited for us as our Didi took us on a bit of a wild goose chase but when we finally caught up Jimmy was great. The food and drinks were great and generous portions. Jimmys recommendations for other places to visit were spot on - couldn't fault anything!

Jim and Jade were fantastic hosts, taking us on a very informative food tour through several interesting neighborhoods. We tried restaurants and foods we would never have even known existed. The food was really delicious and more than enough to make you full. Learning about history and culture made it a really well-rounded experience. Jim is a native of Shanghai and had a ton of interesting anecdotes and knowledge to share. This is a great tour for those that are just visiting or long term residents.

We really enjoyed the food tour. Jim was wonderful and not only introduced us to great food, but also gave us a historical tour of Shanghai. It was great to be able to ask him questions about Chinese culture and customs. We loved the different meals, so much so that we went back to several of the restaurants the next day! And visited a bar that Jim recommended us too. A fantastic way to experience local cuisine and explore the city, in a friendly group setting.
