People typically spend up to 1.5 hThe Museum of History in Târgoviște represents an important touristic objective of the region, but also a location where a large part of the traditions of the nation are intertwined with the historical testimonies of the Romanian state.
The History Museum of Târgoviște is located in the center of the city, the former capital of Romania, in the old building of the local court. The placement of the Museum in this place has in itself a historical significance, the building becoming one of the important architectural monuments of the city, dating from 1902.

Inside it we can admire an important collection of archaeological and historical pieces discovered in the region. These collections are of great antiquity, reminding us of the times of our existence on this protected land, dating back to prehistoric times.

On the ground floor of the building, every year, on various occasions, the management organizes various exhibitions, as well as numerous shows.ours here

This is the building, now museum, where Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife were tried and executed. It is now old, dilapidated, and not maintained very well or used except for the area of the trial. Entry cost was 8 ron and there is an addition charge to take photos. The rooms are very small and you can tell by the furniture it was a very poor country in 1989. It appears they do not want to glamorize the event or persons as there were limited photos. There is a room where they checked President Ceausescu and his wife medically before the trial. There is room with the tables and chairs that the trial was in. There are two chairs in a corner where they sat. The other tables were used for the defense, prosecutors and guards. There is a room with the beds where they ate and slept. You can go outside and see the area where they stood them up and used automatic weapons to kill them. There were no trees there at that time as now. I recommend you do some research on the subject before you visit this museum as it would help you understand the dynamics of the event.

When you learn about the Communist regime of Romania...you know that this place is an Historical site...It may give you shiver. The museum is cheap and not well filled with object. The place were the trial happen is almost entirely preserved. It it not touristy at all and Targoviste also dont look pretty touristy but in historical perspective it is a landmark.
They dont promote any idea for or against communist but just show what happened in december 1989.To be infront of the wall filled with bullet hole is I dont know...Find it by yourself of you are on the way to Targoviste.

The entrance is really cheap

The military unit where the Ceauşescu spouses were shot now transformed into the museum. The three rooms and the courtyard where the execution wall is located can be visited in 5 minutes.

3 stars because it made me feel something, -3 stars because it has only 3 small rooms and it is not preserved at all.

If you are around, go see it. I was born after 89, but I had a lump in my throat seeing those simple, smelly rooms, the red phone and the wall where they were shot.
Seeing it, I felt like it happened a couple years ago, not 29...

If you are near the area and have time, then it is worth stopping in to see where history took place in December 1989. The reality is that the facility appears to be much the same as it was in 1989. They do not appear to have invested money into maintaining the property. You can see the room where Nicolae and Elana Ceausescu spent there last nights, the room where the trial occurred as well as the wall with the bullet holes in the building where they were executed. I would not go out of my way or make a special trip just to see this.

Located in Targoviste City, around 80 km from the capital is an old Military Barracks where the former Romanian leader and his wife were taken, tried and executed on Christmas day in 1989.
Four days earlier he had attempted to speak from the Parliament buildings in Bucharest and inform the people he had persecuted for so long that things would improve in January. He was not believed and as matters went out of his control down blow in the square, Ceausescu and his wife escaped in a military helicopter. During the flight the pilot was informed the military had joined the revolutionaries, he then landed at the barracks in Targovista handing over his charges to the army. Their life of sheer luxury moved to a small drab room where they were imprisoned until their show trial on Christmas morning. It lasted less than an hour and led to their execution by firing squad. The barracks in question, well at least the four or so rooms and the execution site are now a museum staffed by English speaking volunteers. Maybe for some it will prove gruesome but in reality it provides both the Romanians and the foreign visitor to more understand the historic events at the end of the 1980's that was to effect such a major change in this beautiful and fascinating country.

I remember seeing what happened here on television when I was 15, still remember to this day. If you're interested in world history and especially what happened in Romania this place is worth a visit.
Quite out of the way from Bucharest and was our guides first visit himself, it won't be everyone's cup of tea though.
Don't think they get many visitors and we were the only ones there but if your interested it gives plenty of time to take in what happened.
There are only three rooms and obviously the wall where they were shot but they keep it open anyway. One thing that really stuck out was the smell, it smelled really old, almost as if your were back in 1989!

It is a small museum. It has only 3 rooms but with a big impact regarding romanian history. Here are presented the rooms where the well known romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife lived their last 3 nights, before to be murdered in the back of the building.

Walking through allowed me to imagine what it was like to be there for the trial and execution. This was a quiet location with a somber feel; real and not an imitation. It is an important place for the recent history of Romania and worth visiting.
