I enjoy colour and natural fabrics so the choice has become quite limited as the locals are attracted to more subdued tones in polyester after all the years of bright batiks. Kamdar, my one time favourite was dull, Cosmic Silk had closed the other store but still selling cotton remnants with high price. Nagoya didn't have any hidden treasures at the back of the shop. I ended up buying some cotton and vintage viscose from Gulati's bargain basement and headed for Jakel Mall.

One of the place that I have to visit every year especially when Ramadhan for preparation of my Eid Celebration. It is a place with full of culture wear with the cheapest price!

This used to be one of the go to places in the past due to the shopping (Globe Silk Store, Mun Loong etc), but has been reduced to the main attraction of Little India at the back of it.

Still one of the tourist things to do. Locals would probably avoid it as parking is challenging during weekdays.

Interesting fabrics in natural materials are becoming harder to find, most qualities are plain flower prints. This year the best bargains were from the basements of three Gulatis, old stock of European viscose in bright colours sold for 10 rm/m. Kamdar where I usually shop a lot was a dissappointment, in Penang they seemed already to be closing their outlet. The new Jakel mall some blocks away had special holiday offers in elegant prints on viscose and linen which I couldn't resist.

Try to avoid going during weekend. The traffic is very congested and very hard to find parking. Try to use public transport.

The Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman is a long street close to the Chow Kit district of Kuala Lumpur. There’s lots of local shops, eateries and hotels on it. To be honest, I didn’t think it was anything special. It convenient if you want to do some shopping in local shops, flea markets and be able to eat, but otherwise, the street isn’t all that different from other major areas of Kuala Lumpur except perhaps that it’s cheaper.

Good prices for garments and textile products. Quite a number of restaurants around too if you are hungry / thirsty. Jalan TAR (as it is affectionately known by locals) can get quite crowded in the run up to local festivals such as Hari Raya (Muslim Eid) and Deepavali (Hindu celebration). Roads around here can get quite jammed, so it is best to use public transport to get here.
