It's not a coincidence that this fat feline is situated in such a prestigious place. A documented story says that some three hundred years ago empress Elizabeth of Russia was scared to the marrow by hordes of mice in her newly-built palace in St Petersburg and ordered that best cats be found in her empire to exterminate them. Appropriately voracious and fortitudinous creatures were detected in Kazan'. Since then a Cat from Kazan' became sort of a brand name in Russia.
Me and my wife visited that monument in June, when on a tour of that city which we really love. It stands not far from the main pedestrian street (Baumana) so there are always crowds of people there, both tourists and locals, striving to take a picture with that placid fatso. Who obviously can hardly catch even a snail, to say nothing of an agile little mouse. Just Whiskas.

This is one out of many small sculptures/monuments along the Bauman St. It's just a quick photo spot you're about to encounter anyway walking the Kazan main pedestrian street.
Seeing other traveler's pics here I noticed it was moved. Many older here are right on Bauman, but actually it's now at a corner of a smaller side street, but still noticeable from Bauman.
It would be nice from the city authorities to place a plaque explaining the monument.

Nice view on fairy tale like monument. Unfortunately no sign explaining the background or story behind this....

There is some story about cats and Kazan (something to do with residents of this city sending a very efficient "mouse-catching" cat to the Empress Catherine the Great), which I could not verify. Everyone I spoke to, had a different version. This monument is apparently supposed to be in honour of that famous cat! A great favourite among the locals, kids (and even some adults!) love to be photographed on the cat, or near the cat. Don't go out of your way to see it, but if you walk down Bauman Street, ask someone about it, and take a few photos for bragging rights back home !!!! Largest and most elaborate cat statue I have ever seen anywhere!

This is one of those street sculptures that is fun to see while walking this pedestrian street. Not something I would make a special trip to see.

People taking pictures around it. Not much to see. The area is interesting. Bauman Street is great for spending time walking around.

In the Bauman street, you can find so many places to visit, actually, most of the interesting place along this street.

one statue blink in the middle of the street, It is a cat. Kazan cat.
I don't know too much about this cat, but this cat is one of the symbols of Kazan.

You should take a memorial picture.

I'm not sure what else I can say bar what is in my title.
It's a very nice, quirky piece of street art and makes a nice photo stop. The kids love it to be fair, always clambering all over it.
But pales into insignificance when compared to the Imperial Carriage monument further along Baumann.

Just a real fun statue in the Baumana St. The statue is closer toward the Kremlin. Hard to miss when there are not crowds of soccer fans around :)
