OK place to stop by and look inside. They have a wrought iron gate out front so you can see inside even when it is closed. It is really big inside but the best thing most people use this place for as I have noticed, is the large overhang outside over the sidewalk, making it a good place to stay dry while it is raining!! I often see people passing by walking and they make the sign of the cross while looking towards the church. This church plays a large part in the lives of locals here.

If you are religious could have a meaning to you; in our case just looking around town for some good old Hispanic constructions. Inside poor compare with other Catholics churches of the same period around Latino america.

This Catholic church is located in the center of David across from Cervantes Parque. They painted the Church not long ago and it is closed most days but on Sunday's it seems to be about 3/4 full.

If you ask local people about the cathedral, they all refer to the church at Parque de Cervantes. This community church called La Sagrada Familia seems to be better known. Anyway the 'catedral' is five blocks down from the parque (Southeast). The tower is the historic part, but you can not go inside or on top. It is not developed as a site (yet). The actual cathedral building is relatively new and average. I had to wait three hours for a bus to San José and walked around. Lively town, very hot and busy. Good place to shop before you enter expensive Costa Rica.

The building is a historical site in David and Panama. There is no cost to see it.

David's cathedral is located in David's original centro historico, several blocks from the Parque Central/Cervantes. Catedral de San Jose de David. The best day to go is Sunday late morning, no traffic, and few people around. If you like old architecture and churches this is one to take in.

This is a must see in Panama. No matter if you are religious or Catholic or neither. The building is a historical site and cost nothing to see. It sometimes fills up at Mass so either go to Mass shortly before it starts or go after Mass. The Priest is very accomodating.

Really nice location of David, next to a beautiful park and very large Catholic school. Great to hear the students in the learning process very disappointed that the Cathedral was locked-up on all three sides of the building. I was there at 930am in a weekday. Walked across street to cur have office but staff does not speak English. When I attempted to use my Translation Apt, I was not connected to the network so that ended my quest to get inside.

David's cathedral is located in David's original centro historico, about 5 - 10 minute walk from Parque Central/Cervantes.
Catedral de San Jose de David. The tower was baptized on December 7, 1891. It was used as a lookout in the 1000 Days War. The remainder of the Cathedral is much newer, built within the last 25 years (my estimate). The tower was damaged by bullets during the war. This site is a National Historic Landmark.
Inside the Cathedral, there are many colourful murals depicting key scenes from the text of the Bible. The Bishop from this cathedral, 70 year old Jose Luis Lacunza Meastrojuan, was recently (spring 2015) named a Cardinal by Pope Francis. Bishop Meastrojuan is Panama's first Cardinal.

This was really the only 'historical' attraction I could find in David. We flew into David to pick up our rental car for touring around the area (from the Pacific coast to the highlands). And, while the area is beautiful and the food was very good, there really wasn't much in the town of David except for this cathedral. And, the tower was closed so we could only walk around the plaza. Overall, not worthwhile.
