Self Guided Turkey opened up a new way of travelling for me and my partner. I am not an experienced camper or hiker, and the support / advice from Self Guided Turkey gave us the confidence to explore the Lycian way, walking from Fethiye to Antalya. It turned out to be the trip of a lifetime!

We walked through valleys bursting with almond trees in blossom, some days we only saw cows and goats. We arrived at our hotels where our luggage awaited, and we were met with Turkish tea and hearty food. For me the best thing was seeing the flowers change as the coastline blossomed in Spring. We were surprised by ruins of the Lycians, a civilisation we didn't even know existed, conquered by Greeks and then Romans, and whose cities were abandoned when trade routes changed. We had a detailed trip book which introduced us to the history and explained the routes.

I cannot recommend this service highly enough. It took all the cognitive load and 'admin' hassle out of hiking the Lycian Way, so that we could just focus on the spectacular nature and ruins at every corner. Being self-guided meant that we could experience total quiet, and go at our own pace. And we could discover the route ourselves, and be surprised by what we found!

We were provided with back up GPS for periods when the way isn't clear. The company arranged for our luggage to be transferred while we hiked, and everywhere we arrived was prepared and understood exactly what would happened. Furthermore on days when we arrived late, Altay called us to check we were okay. Altay was on hand to help all the time with all logistics, like helping when the airline lost our luggage or recommending an excellent hammam to rest our muscles at the end of the trip!

Altay had great taste and chose really tasteful hotels that were excellent value and often simple but set in spectacular nature, with excellent food. On days when we wouldn't pass somewhere for lunch, he organised a packed lunch. He did all the 'googling' and logistics and it really meant we had a totally stress free experience. It opened up a whole new way of travelling and experiences I don't think I could have ever found (like hiking for 4 hours through valleys where we met no one but cows - and then being met by a boat who took us to a sunken city only accessible by water!)

I wish he had a network in every country - and we'll be back to do more !

My wife and I and two friends just completed an 8-day hiking trip with Self Guided Turkey and were very pleased with their services. Altay and Riki prepared a very professional Trip Book, describing each hike, and detailed gps maps. They were in close communication with us,our various hotels and drivers throughout the trip. The hotels were all clean, comfortable, well located, and with plenty of Turkish hospitality. They were also flexible and made alternative arrangements to accommodate changes in weather and flights.

If you want to have a fabulous self-guided hiking experience designed by a certified guide, a trusted friend and a local organizer all in one then you came to the right place, Altay is all that and more.
I had two magnificent weeks in Cappadocia and Antalya hiking amazing trails with all planning, lodging, transfers, meals and route details completely taken care off by Altay. I just had to show up, do my hikes and enjoy my time.
You won't go wrong with Self-guided Turkey... They literally won't let you leave unsatisfied :)
Enjoy your travels.

We can’t thank Rikki and Altay enough for organising the most magical hike on the Lycian trail.

They customised a 12 day trek and organised transfers and accommodation. They were our silent partners and guides every step of the way.

They showed us a radiant, beautiful Turkey.

Self-guided Turkey provided a well organized 8 day hiking trip on the Bozburun and Datca peninsulas. The hiking was gorgeous and they provided good clear maps (with GPS coordinates) and interesting information about the areas where we were hiking. The hotels and transportation were all very well arranged and organized. Rikki and Altay were incredibly responsive throughout the trip!

This was our first visit to Turkey, and we felt that we required a little help navigating our hike. We told Altay what we wanted to do and how many days we wanted to hike. He sent us through a wonderful itinerary for the Lycian Way, and booked all of our accommodation. His trip notes were spot on.
We cannot recommend self guided Turkey enough. Altay helped make our trip perfect, and one of the best experiences of our lives.

Altay organised a fantastic walking holiday for us . My husband has a bad knee and I was worried he wouldn’t manage more than 4/5 hours a day - no problem for Altay . The bag transfer was seamless , the hotels were perfect for us - I really appreciated the fact that Altay accepted a bit of input on the hotel choice - he’s doesn’t just stick to the same hotels . My son walked alone and ahead of us - and while our 4 hours was enough for us he needed more than Altay had prepared - no problem while he was over there Altay added distance , changed hotels etc and still managed to get us together for a last night dinner . The organisation was discret and perfectly run . We appreciated the gps as reassurance but frankly on the Lycian way you can’t really go wrong it is so well signposted - at least on the part we walked . Everyone we met was helpful and kind . We didn’t have the slightest worry about honesty - coming from
Paris - we appreciated that . Thank you for everything Altay - we had a great holiday - due to your organisational and people skills.

We spent a week hiking the Lycian Way. Spectacular ! Altay did a wonderful job arranging and organizing everything. Even though the tour was intended to be "self-guided", Altay was always available via cell phone that he provided, and indeed met up with us when needed. We'll be back for his other tours and programs.

Our trip was amazing! Altay planned a 10-day self-guided driving and hiking tour for us through SW Turkey. Although I had been to this area many times before, I saw places I didn't know existed (Kelebek Vadisi, Yediler Monastery) and can't wait to go back and see more. Altay's planning of the trip was superb - car arrangements, hiking directions and transfers, hotels and meals. The driving and hiking GPSs made it easy not to worry about where we were going next. He was always within reach via the cell phone he provided us, checking in to see if we had any needs (we didn't, he'd already thought of them all). His commitment to the hiking trails in this area really makes him different than a guide who is not so involved in their preservation and maintenance. We are already planning to work with him again next year.

I made this 4 day hiking with my wife and a close friend of mine at the end of September 2022. It was the perfect decision to hike this magnificient route without any group or guide with the help of Self-Guided Turkey which gave us a lot of flexibility in terms of timing. We are planning to do the 4-day Heart of Lycia Tour next week again with the help of Altay & Rikki.
