Shared Kekova and Sunken City Tour From Kas Harbor with Lunch

142 reviews
The Sunken City of Kekova is one of Turkey’s lesser-visited historic highlights, a second-century port town that collapsed into the sea after an earthquake. Visit the city while it’s still a secret on this day-long boat trip from the Kaş Harbour. Spend the morning snorkelling in the sky-blue waters at Akvaryum Bay and Tersane Bay before visiting the sunken city in the afternoon.

This little gallery is tucked away, slightly off the beaten track of restos etc but well worth a visit. The artist is there himself, a man from Bordeaux, whose art appeals to all tastes. He uses woodblock printing and the results are lovely - plenty of nautical themes, some colourful, some bi or monochrome. Small framed prints start at around 70 lira (10 euros) up to magnficent prints on cotton for around 110 euros. Lovely guy - really worth a visit.

LikyaArt, a small gallery packed with original art, is two minutes outside the center of town, on the road to the (well-preserved) ancient theater. The woodblock prints, t-shirts, cards and so forth are all unique and unavailable elsewhere. Turkey and Kaş have a lot of stores selling exactly same thing; this place stands apart. The subjects are mostly scenes or details from Kaş or other places in the region, Lycia or Likya. Some are of modern life and others—my favorite—are of Lycia's ancient remains. Something about the format and design of the woodblocks echoes the haunting remains of ancient Lycia, with its ancient culture influenced by Greece but still mysteriously independent. Among other things, Lycians wrote with their own alphabet, similar but independent from the Greek alphabet, and LikyaArt is the only place in town that sells t-shirts with these weird and beautiful letters. In full disclosure, I should add I now friends with the proprietors, who are lovely people. But I liked the store before I liked its owners!
