This, as we were to learn during our road trip, is the usual standard of Israeli National Parks - well laid out, clean, reasonably priced and with plenty of visitor information. We spent about 3 hours on the site, walking from the theatre in the south to the Crusader walls in the north. The museum was very good, the model on the Temple of Augustus viewpoint was excellent too and allowed you to put everything you could see as you looked towards the harbour in context. The Herodian Hippodrome was also impressive and this was the smaller of the two in the city. For me the highlight were the city walls though, rebuilt by Louis IX - very impressive indeed. There is a cafe on the site (by the harbour) and a couple of gift shop/galleries too.

We visited here and explored the ruins and really enjoyed it. We also watched a short informational film in the Visitor Center which helped us gain some perspective on what actually happened here. The construction of the harbor was an amazing feat for its time. Walking through the area was a good learning experience.

A major tourist attraction in Israel, this impressive archeaological site covers a large area along the beautiful shoreline. There is a lot to see including the restored deep water harbour, an impressive hippodrome and legendary aquaducts. Artefacts are on display in a museum that also shows a film in several languages. The site is easily accessible by car, but unfortunately much less so by public transportation.

Very well maintained and such a pleasure to visit. Go there early in the morning before the crowds come in. You can even get to sit at the theatre without much interruptions. The hippodrome and the beach were very good and relaxing to spend time with a drink. You dont have to get the souveniers from the supermarket before the exit gate. Just exit and get the souveniers from the stores on the outside and next to the cafes.

An archeological site with a sea view...the ruins of the palace pools go out into the water. Perhaps my favorite ruins in Israel. So amazing. The hippodrome is fantastically well preserved. I guess everything was covered in sand that preserved it all and they have only excavated like 10 percent of the whole complex so far...what else will they find?

Worth visiting. It is one hour drive from Tel Aviv in Haifa district. During opening hours there is free but after that it is free to visit harbor many part of the remains but Caesaria Martima is close Caesarea National Park was once a port city, and was rebuilt and expanded upon under the Roman Empire’s King Herod in the year 10 BCE. After that, it operated as a navy base, and became the capital of the Roman province of Judea, where it took on a central role in Christianity. Because of this Caesarea is referenced several times in the New Testament.

The Caesarea site, a real gem of the Mediterranean coast, offers phenomenal vistas of the sea and atmospheric Roman ruins. King Herod received this beautiful city and port from the Romans and, in his usual lavish style, he built luxurious palace for himself, the remnants of which you can see today. Back in the days of Ancient Rome Caesarea had pretty sophisticated water system and the port was an important trading place on the coast. The restored Roman Amphitheater faces the sea and is a popular place for concerts now. The beauty of the sea and the Roman ruins is hard to describe… my pictures might tell the story a little better.

Caesarea Maritime is an ancient port fortified by the famous King Herod over two thousand years ago. The city was a very important and key place in ancient history until it disappeared and turned into ruins. But archaeologists came here and found many interesting artifacts. This is primarily a Roman theater, elements of the ruins of palaces, mosaics, Roman baths, water supply systems, hippodrome, port and much more. This is a very interesting place to visit.

Caesarea is an ancient port city. Ancient seafarers plied heir trade here. Traders from all over the Mediterranean Sea gathered here to buy and sell. Caesarea is right before the ancient ocean. The Mediterranean Sea was "the center of the world" in ancient times. The Roman Ampitheater is also interesting. Caesaria is worth a detour.
