About
The Sanur Beach Promenade is lined with brightly painted outrigger boats along the water's edge, and good restaurants and cafes opposite. Treat yourself to a massage offered by one of the many masseuses with divans on the sand. If you're there in July, catch the Bali Kite Festival, a colorful international competition.

- RamboNWAlbertaSpruce Grove, Canada644 contributionsDecent beach best on north sideWe stayed a block off the beach at the Prime Plaza Hotel. Easy walk there, restaurants, shops etc along the way. Beach is busy area off this street and not as nice or kept up. Walking north to the right and along Sanur Beach gets to much better areas, nicer beach front, more sand and way more services. This beach area has adjacent markets, restaurants, shops, mini marts, everything you need. Easy to rent out lounge chairs, umbrellas, etc. , easy water access and not overly busy..Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 March 2024
- Nicole I17 contributionsNice stay in SanurI really liked Sanur. Very nice restaurants, less traffic. If you prefer something quieter, I recommend Sanur. The beach was quite clean, the sea is shallow, more suitable for families. Nice, simple, chilled restaurants on the beach.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 5 June 2024
- Urlauberin1981Linz, Austria422 contributionsBetter than expectedWe knew that no dream beach with white sand and turquoise water awaited us in Bali and accordingly had no high expectations. So I have to say that we were positively surprised. Especially in the area of our hotel (Puri Santrian) the beach was cleaned daily, we were also lucky with the tides and were able to go into the sea several times a day for the majority of our stay. At low tide, this is actually not possible. Yes, sometimes you have some plastic in the water, but it happens all over the world. Yes, we have seen more beautiful beaches, but you don't fly in Bali (only) for the beaches, but for the culture, nature and flair. We loved Sanur, especially because of the many different restaurants and since it is really (unlike Ubud) very quiet and chilled. Overall, I can highly recommend Sanur Beach (especially in the area of Puri Santrian).Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 June 2024
- sydneysider48Sydney, Australia1,194 contributionsNice to walk along. The beach water appears clean and there were plenty of people swimming but we did not feel the need to do so as there was lots of seaweed and the water was very shallow. The sand on the beach could have been much cleaner - there was an unacceptable amount of plastic and other litter. That said, there is a lengthy and delightful walk along the beach, lined with cafes and restaurants, and we enjoyed sitting on sun lounges under a beach umbrella in the private area for our resort looking over the water to the reef and enjoying the sun and the sea breeze.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 July 2024
- Lesley MBrisbane Region, Australia179 contributionsOne of my favourite places in BaliI've been going to Bali since 2007 and Sanur is one of my favourite areas. A beautiful beach with white sand and no waves. Good for families. The newly renovated boardwalk makes it so much easier to walk along now. A great range of cafes and restaurants with lots of little stores to browse in. Sanur beach is always my first stop when I arrive in Bali.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 September 2024
- umitosoratodaichiYokohama, Japan187 contributionsPromenadeWe stopped by on our way home from Ubud. We chartered a car for 12 hours, We're in traffic, we're in more. If you think about it, it's just for the boardwalk. It's a bit of a waste to go to Sanur. I thought, but the beach and the area are quaint Yes, and next time we'll spend a few nights around here You might want to stay and enjoy yourself. There is also a port, which is convenient for crossing to remote islands.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 September 2024
- Trail407457976621 contributionMust be able to protect this beautiful beachSanur Beach is so beautiful But why are there no trash bins along Sanur beach. Signs for cyclists and pedestrians are minimal so it's hard to understand and see where the right path is. Especially after Icon Mall opened there is a lot of trash around the beach. So where is the revenue from parking money? facilities are very minimal. You must be able to protect this beautiful beach, don't just want to take advantage of it.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 September 2024
- Serge YdoKoggenland, The Netherlands15,760 contributionsPretty nice beachWe visited Sanur just after the tourist season. That might colour our assessment. Along the stand of Sanur runs a narrow hiking trail. On the one hand the beach, at high tide quite narrow, on the other hand large luxury-looking resorts and even more luxurious-looking private "pieds a terre" of the bon ton. Let them have it! Along the footpath - where you have to give tourist-cyclists space every now and then - numerous restaurants on the edge of or on with beach. The whole made a friendly impression .. touristy yes. But that's why we walked there drinking coffee. Afternoon beautiful light at sunset.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 October 2024

My favorite things to do in Sanur, strolling along the beach while looking for a nice cafe to sit and sip a nice coffee. The beach rented bikes too, local people sell it.Visited November 2024Travelled soloWritten 16 November 2024

A bit like a ‘Costa’ promenade. With clean beaches and blue seas.
Developments happening at various points and some of the more modern constructions are spectacular, The Mall for instance.
Cut throughs from the road behind to the front are limited by the more expensive beach front hotel complexes. So if staying on a budget even one row behind the front be prepared to walk some distance.
We hired bikes and did the whole front there and back. We hired bikes for the afternoon 2 for 100Irp we could have bargained harder but for £2;50 each it really was not worth it!
There is a dedicated cycle path next to the footpath but this didn’t stop both becoming footpaths, quite tricky and this was in quiet low season.
Some pot holes, big puddles and sleeping policemen along the way. Bigger hotels and restaurants have crossing guards for their clientele, which works well.
Plenty to see and do, well priced food and drink, market stalls and people dodging. Good fun and ended with a quick dip in the sea. Nearly forgot see the turtles in the conservation area at one of the hotels, free but there is a donations box,
A really nice afternoon.

It is a beach with good and quality hotels. However, the beer is poorly maintained, I think the locals need some training on this issue. You can observe the tides very well. It has peaceful, quiet and enjoyable evenings. I recommend you to go there and drink Bintang beer and listen to live music performances.

Sanur Beach is an excellent area for swimming (during high tide hours only), walking along the 3+ mile long boardwalk that runs the entire length of Sanur Beach, or lounging under sun or tree shade. This Beach is protected from any high waves by a long reef that sits about 200 meters from the shoreline. Sanur Beach is a shallow beach with a maximum water depth of around 2 meters or less, and during the peak low-tide time periods there is little water in this beach area. However, during the high tide time periods, the Beach area is a great place.
The boardwalk that runs along the entire length of Sanur Beach is very nice. This boardwalk was entirely refurbished/rebuilt just last year (2022) and is now an excellent walkway that is mostly covered by shade trees which is nice for people who are avoiding sunburns. Along the walkway, you get nice views of the beach areas, resort hotels, seaside restaurants and bars - much to see and do here.
If you like to see nice sunrises, Sanur beach offers great scenic views of sunrises along the entire length of the beach. This is a photogenic beach for sunrises that is not to be missed.
One block away from the beach, there is Jalan Danau Tamblingan Street, the main thoroughfare through Sanur, has many restaurants, bars, shops, money exchsnges, grocery stores, hotels and more. So there are many things to see and do here - well worth the visit.

We recently visited Sanur Beach and I'm sorry to say that our experience was far from the idyllic beach we expected. The beach was littered with garbage throughout, which not only spoiled the scenery but also made swimming impossible. Despite long walks along the beach from one end to the other, the situation did not improve. This sight was disappointing, especially considering how much we were looking forward to relaxing days swimming. It seems that this place is in dire need of measures to clean up garbage and use environmental resources more sustainably. Until then, I cannot recommend a visit here.

Back after 15 years what a disillusionment. Dirty, busier, noise. The beachwalk is uncontrollably packed with all kinds of tents. You can hardly walk normally when someone comes on a bike, who can't actually cycle. Derelict land with old hotel buildings. Beaches still dirty, plastic in the sea. The prices charged are so absurd that you don't feel like negotiating.
It all just became too much and not in a positive sense. Too bad.

They are not the best beaches to bathe, murky, dirty water and with local boats moored a few meters away, I do not recommend them. Many massage and food services will offer you unknown people. For a walk at night along the beach ba very well. The ona is pretty quiet

All tours on and around Bali can be cheaply booked on the beach. We stayed in Segara Village and booked all our tours via Dayu Putri, she works in front of Segara Village opposite Tootsies. She arranges all tours to wherever you want to go for a really good price and everything included.
Our experience with Dayu was heartwarming and we will visit Bali as soon as possible again.

We were in the public area and found it lovely and the people friendly. You get the usual store vendors but once you find a spot or Cafe to sit at they leave you be. There was a lovely breeze each day to cool you off and generally a pleasant experience

The grounds of our hotel spilled out onto this beach and we loved it. We spent time in the morning, noon and night and enjoyed every minute.
There really is something for everyone. There are little beach clubs where you can rent sun loungers for not much money and they usually have a restaurant attached to them.
In fact, you won’t go short of anything to eat or drink as there are lots of bars, restaurants and shops to get refreshments.
The beach itself is very long and pretty clean. We did loads of walks on it and got good exercise whilst enjoying the beautiful views.

Short ride from Seminyak.
Quiet and laid back, must say the beach is beautiful. A nice walking path along the beach for a good view, coupled with many cafes and shops selling souvenirs. Electric bicycles for rental too. Even a small conservation are for turtles - can swing by to have a look.
We went in Dec 2022, weather was hot and humid, even the breeze is hot.
Good to book a short stay, a night or two for a getaway from the usual busy Seminyak or Kuta.

Sanur beach is quite a long area. Which part of Sanur beach is better to swim? Higher lever water, less seaweed.

Hi, we love Sanur and also prefer the South End of the beach where there are lots of restaurants on the beach. Sanur is quiet and perfect for over 50's. I would love to recommend the Boutique Hotel we stayed in last October and are staying in again this May, but since we've booked, we discovered that there will soon be building works right next door. The Hotel are very good and have said if we are disturbed, they'll refund our money. So we just have to wait and see. We adore this place and really hope by May the noise may be finished. It's called Kejora Suites.
We also love Candidasa which is up the East Coast we will spend part time in Sanur and part in Candidasa (pronounced, Chandidasa). Have a look at Alam Candi Dive Resort. Small, quiet right on the water. Gorgeous. We've stayed there several times. But if you just want to chill out, then 2 weeks in beautiful Sanur would be great.
Enjoy, I'd love to hear where you stayed and how your holiday went.
Best Wishes

How long is the promenade/walk along the beach?
Written 7 October 2019
The promenade along Sanur is 5.38 kilometers long (approx 3.34 miles). I just measured it on google earth. I have ridden most of it on a bicycle. There are some places where you need to get off the bike to go through pedestrian gates, but it is ridable. Many people walk, stroll, and jog along here also, especially in the mornings. You can hire a bike for 50k IDR for an old clunker, or 100K IDR for a newer bike. Some hotels offer bikes for free. You may need to stop occasionally and walk the bike when there is any ceremony at a temple, wedding, procession, or cluster of people. I would not recommend riding the biclcle on the main road (it is very sketchy there indeed).

Absolutely there are
We go to Kayu Manis Restaurant on the walk way were you can sit for free provided you buy a drink or food
There are also the girls that do massages along beach walk that hire sun beds at reasonable price

Wondering what the beach is like in Sanur in July)August in terms of swimming. Is it polluted in the water at that time of year? I have visted twice before but at different times. Both occasions there was readily visible plastic pollution in the water and on the beach. I wonder if that's seasonal or all the year. I really liked Sanur village but want a swimming holiday in July.

Basically they did clean up many time (specially for plastic).
Last month I was there and was not bad. Hope you get a good view this time...

Hi - I am starting to worry that my plan to visit Sanur in July will be a wrong choice because I am seeing pictures of the beach being dirty and stories of many stray dogs - I am quite frightened of dogs.
So far we have only booked flights to Bali - Its our first time - where should we head for? We are two adults and a teenager
Written 7 April 2019
As I explained in my review, the garbage on the beach is a seasonal problem. As the dry season starts (about April usually) the winds shift from Westerly to South-Easterly. This brings nice cool breezes up from the Australian Fall and Winter and makes Sanur one of the best sites in the world for kite surfing. On the downside, as the winds shift, all the garbage that was floating around in the ocean to south of Bali gets washed up on Sanur beaches. The good news, it soon gets cleared as the 5* Hotels deploy teams of workers to clear it daily. As of now, and I walked all along Sanur beach yesterday, the garbage has gone and will not return until the start of the dry season in 2020.
Stray dogs are all over Bali and Sanur in general does not have a problem.
Sanur is a quiet, peaceful beach village. If you are looking for a peaceful holiday, it is ideal. There are plenty of restaurants and bars but not much "nightlife" as such. Your teenager will prefer Kuta, which is only 20 minutes away by (inexpensive) local Uber equivalents Grab or Go-Jek.

We are trying to decide between a private villa or going into a hotel. Does it feel safe to wander round Sanur in the evening.?
Written 1 April 2019
There are certain commenters here who seem interested only in promoting Nusa Dua and putting Sanur down at every opportunity. I built a home in Sanur 30 years ago and have lived full-time in Sanur for 20 years. Many of the problems being attributed to Sanur are, IMHO, entirely fictitious.
With regard to personal safety, we own some Villas in Sanur also and we have has groups of young ladies stay there and walk home to the Villas in the early hours with no problems. Bali in general is safe but, for a number of reasons, Sanur in particular is extremely safe. There is petty crime in Bali but it is mainly in the Kuta area, where purse snatchers and pickpockets are an intermittent problem.
Our own personal experience of living in Sanur for so long is that we have never once had a security problem of any description.
And Sanur is a part of the real Bali still with a strong local community and culture. It's LIVING Bali. The Nusa Dua complex of 5* hotels is nice in a way but it is entirely artificial and built for tourism. EVERYTHING there was built recently so nothing is original in its manicured perfection. Prices down there also are far higher than elsewhere on the island and IMHO there is a far better selection of reasonably-priced restaurants in Sanur.
