Must visit if you are in Chengdu. Its at Qintai Road. Show starts at 8pm till 930pm. Buy ticket early, in the noon at their office at Qintai Road. The theatre is across the road in a park. The ticketing staff will tell you the theatre location. A very unique experience.

What a fantastic show, never ever expected this , never heard of such a show. Pleasantly surprised. What a spectacular show of song and dance. The main event was the changing face show . How clever it was. The performer was just brilliant, changing his face about thirty times in an instance. I didn’t want it to stop. Excellent

I believe that plays and operas are a good window to know old history, tradition and culture of a country and a place. Sichuan Opera was exactly that. After reading great reviews I decided to visit this place. Actual theater is inside a park located on beautiful Qintai Road. Tonghuimen Road station is the closest subway station. Get out of the station and walk towards Qintai road which is hardly 50 m away. Qintai Road is in itself a beautiful street with lots of restaurants. Buying tickets online is usually cheaper, but I bought it from the ticket office located across the street outside the park in which theater is located. I paid 140 CNY and is one of the few places in China which accepts international cards. I will recommend 7:30 PM show. Reach about 2 hours before the show. Most restaurants in China start winding up around 9 PM and the show goes on till 9 so you may not find many restaurants open after the show ends. Around 6 PM inside the park local chinese people assemble and dance. It is a slow rhythmic dance which seems like a form of exercise and is common across China. It is an experience in itself.
I bought the least expensive ticket of 140 CNY. Some people recommend to buy a VIP seat but I felt that even from back seats experience is kind of same as theater is small. Every one is offered unlimited supply of Chinese tea and a snack which you have to crack open and eat.
I have seen a lot of cultural programs around the world and this Opera is among the top 5 that I have seen. It gives you a glimpse of how deep and old the Chinese civilization is. Show is combination of multiple programs including a musical program in which a guy plays a traditional flute like instrument. Everything was great and my favorite were the initial comic skit and mask changing show at the end. Whole program is in Chinese but there is lady host who will introduce each play both in Chinese and English. Do not be deterred by the Chinese language as the show is so great that it will transcend the boundaries and barriers of language and will give you a lifetime experience. If you have only one thing to do in China, then I will recommend this.

We booked the VIP experience and it was well worth the additional cost. Purchase tickets online or at the box office on Jinlixi street. If you buy the tickets online be sure to first go to the box office first to get your actual tickets. Then you will walk across the street to the theater. Our seats ended up being in the third row from stage and included massage or ear cleaning. The theater inside is charming. Before the performance you can borrow a fan if you need one. The show was highly entertaining even for the the non-Chinese speaker and lasts about 90 minutes. Afterwards my husband and I opted to have the theatrical makeup and traditional costume experience for an extra charge. We could not believe it was us after looking in the mirror! The staff will use your camera and they took some amazing photos. Afterwards they will remove your make up.

Good opera show eventhoug in earlier part of the show, I do not understand the Chinese spoken show. Very nice show of hand shadow attractions with a skillful lady presenting various things by using the shadow on her hands. Also there is comedy show as well. Better to book VIP seat as we can see the show clearly.

Attending the opera was a highlight of our trip to Chengdu and the whole family enjoyed the show. The performers are wonderful: singers, acrobats, shadow puppets. It is all very engaging and entertaining. The face changing act at the end is an incredible finish. The show is in an outdoor tea house, but it is covered and it was a pleasant way to spend the evening.

Just plain fun and funny. A lot of talent here in a variety of acts. Impossible to name a standout as they're all excellent. The hand images, the hen-pecked husband with the burning lamp on his head, the violin, . . .
Spring for the premium tickets.

We had a very enjoyable evening of watching the Sichuan opera performance of face/mask-changing. The bian lian performers put on a spectacular show of changing their very decorative faceplates in the snap of a split second. At times, the masks were changed multiple times in a few seconds.

I'm so glad we went to the show! Besides seeing the pandas, this is something everyone should do while visiting Chengdu. After reading all the reviews, we decided to squeeze this in our busy travel schedule and it did not disappoint!
We went to the ticket office at 5pm and got tickets for 6pm. They have 3 shows each day, 1400, 1800 and 2000. The 8pm show is the busiest!
We bought the 180RMB tickets sitting further back, kids are half price. The most expensive tickets are 320 and if you're local, you can buy online and get a great discount. Unfortunately, we paid in full but still it was worth every penny.
Our 7year old daughter loved the hand shadow show and face changing. There was musical parts which were a bit more boring for us but good to experience. Over all, the show was 90mins long and snacks are available for purchase. We got the snack set for 48RMB.
