The largest and most impressive of the temples. Be prepared to share with thousands of tourists so it seems a little commercial. Look for Sanskrit writings on the walls. The same writing that formed the basis of Khmer and Thai script today.

Having almost spent a month in Thailand and Laos we were wowed by AW. All the temples and ruins were built in the peak of the Khmer dynasty back in the 1400's. AW was bigger than the cities of London and Paris! We spent two...More

Be prepared for hot, humid weather with thousands of tourists in close quarters. Having accepted this reality------just go for it and enjoy! To be surrounded by buildings that have stood on these grounds since the 11th, 12th century is amazing. The intricate carvings are beautiful...More

Seeing it in person is the only way to comprehend just how big the temple is. There are a lot of tourists and can bet crowded but that’s to be expected. Wesr something light and comfy and shoes that are comfy also.

With such a reputation it is no wonder that the visitors gather in great numbers. You will not be the only one trying to catch the sunrise at 6 o'clock in the morning. But it will be worth it.

The temples are amazing. The big well known ones are beuatiful, but the magic is in the ruins that you can literally climb in and over to explore. Walk through doorways with ancient Sanskrit carvings in on the doors. The carvings of elephants, people and...More
