About
Authentic and sustainable: Discover the Khmer Legacy of Dance through the Sacred Dancers of Angkor. Immerse yourself into the heart of Cambodia history with this unique and traditional Khmer Ballet known as Apsara. You will discover with emotion this art, while supporting the sustainable future of these young artists from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Sacred Dancers of Angkor is the first and only spiritual troupe in Cambodia, which perpetuates the tradition with passion. Since 2007, the dance and music conservatoire of NKFC, a non-profit organisation, taught them the discipline in the ancestral khmer way: meditation, praying and mastering more than 4500 gestural, 5 d/w, 6 h/d. These artists, born in the land of Angkor, are now professionals. They have already met real successes, even abroad! Come to see the legends carved on the wall of Angkor coming to life, this is a way to promote this UNESCO treasure and contribute to the local ethnic development. Wed. & Sun. at 7pm in Siem Reap

Mesmerising

There are many imitations but this is the real deal. Performed outside - this dance troupe keeps the culture and traditions of Cambodia alive.

Exquisite performance of traditional Cambodian dance
Mar 2020 • Friends
This company is worth supporting, all the dancers that you see are in training. They have performed world wide as well as their twice weekly performance in Siem Reap. The garden setting is perfect for this delightful, traditional performance. You will be amazed by the delicacy and steadiness of each and every movement .

Overpriced but a very pleasing performance
Feb 2020
We were rather surprised that the 'Divine Sala' in which this performance took place was a small, dark, outdoor stage. The performance lasted an hour and was very beautiful and authentic, on the whole. We enjoyed it but were not sure it was worth $30 each. I favour supporting training of local young people, though. I recommend eating at ChongKran Khmer Restaurant afterwards - just nearby, they'll pick you up in a tuk tuk and this is also a training programme for young people, as well as being our favourite restaurant in Siem Reap (with great cocktails).

Overpriced
Feb 2020
In case your main intention is to support those nice cambodian youngs, which is nice, than go ahead. For 30 dollars / person we were expecting something breathtaking and got some maximum mediocre performance with very unprofessional and uncomfortable set up. Some guests were even leaving before the end of the show. I felt extremely sorry for the dancers, they were lovely and did their best, but management should reconsider pricing. Not every white people walking around with dollarmillions in their pockets, we do know the value of the money and here the price was outrageous compared to what you get. I just only hope our money went to the right place. Very disappointing.

One of my favorite experiences
Feb 2020 • Solo
This is the true heritage of Apsara dance. Years of training, and the art regarded by the artists as sacred and not just a means to provide background while tourists eat dinner. No food is served, just real authentic Apsara done in a manner as authentic to the classical period as possible. The dancer have clearly practiced their art for years, and have danced in numerous other countries as well. Highly recommended over any of the other “apsara” demonstrations.

Wonderful to see these skills
Feb 2020
Despite reading the reviews, we were not quite sure what to expect. We wanted to see the dancers rather than a meal and dancing performance offered at some other places.
The skills are amazing and the lead dancer was mesmerising. Some parts of the performance were without break for long periods of time. Would like to have seen more of the mail dance - which was only at the opening.
Seats with backs would have made the performance more enjoyable and this should be taken into account if you suffer with back problems. Also some availability of buying a bottle of water or a drink during the performance would help given the cost of the ticket. I'm glad that the money goes to the performers. We bought tickets in advance but it was not full on the evening we visited and you could buy on the door. Advance tickets did not gain you anything as regards seating position.

I am so glad I went to see this performance, it was quite extraordinary. The level of skill was very professional. It was an experience to remember. I highly recommend coming to see them, you won’t be disappointed. You can also buy paintings done by the dancers, where almost all of the money goes directly to them, the rest to the troop costs. I also purchased a hand woven headpiece, which is now a cherished possession. This was one of the best things I did on my trip.

Atmospheric setting
Jan 2020
We wanted to watch a show without having dinner. We liked that the dancers were learning their craft and that the show directly supported them in preserving traditional dance and music. The setting was magical- a small stage in a garden. We arrived early and so were able to sit in the front row. A memorable evening.

Dancing show - traditional
Feb 2020 • Couples
A very professional show, dancers are amazing in their skills and beauty. I would only recommend to install seats with a back for the comfort of the spectators. But again, the show is great.

Authentic Cambodian cultural experience
Jan 2020 • Couples
Not only authentic but you’re also supporting local artisans. The costumes are wonderful and authentic the production Albeit a bit slow for western tastes, I for one thoroughly enjoyed it, (I know my husband was over it after 15 minutes- it only lasts one hour). All that said, it’s all about the hand movements of the ladies & the production they put on is flawless and I for one was mesmerized by it. So if you’re looking for authentic culture this is a must see.
