About
Join us at our Visitor Center and experience the realities of humanitarian demining and how we train rats to save lives. You will learn about the mine clearance process from our guides, enjoy a series of videos showing our work and can read all about how Cambodia became one of the most mine affected countries in the world. Every tour is led by an experienced and friendly tour guide that speaks English. Take the opportunity to learn more about landmines, Cambodia, APOPO, and African-born HeroRATs. See a HeroRAT in action! We have designed and built a demonstration area where the HeroRATs will sniff out buried items, scratch at the surface to indicate they've found something to trainers and of course receive a tasty treat as a reward. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Very well informed and communicative guide explained enormity of the challenge to clear unexploded munitions from the countryside. Really hadn't understood the issue previously. Privileged to meet the rats and their handlers. Really don't understand why rich, powerful countries are not taking responsibility for clearing the life threatening problem they left over from conflict.

Insightful visit

Interesting way to learn more about Cambodia's history, how people are still suffering from the aftermath of the various armed conflicts in the region, and the demining efforts by APOPO and other groups. The rats are very cute and gentle, and you'll get a chance to carry them too! Worth a visit!

Absolutely amazing place and a must visit if you are in Siem Reap. Our guide was fantastic and incredibly informative and the rats have the best lives and work for an amazing cause. The staff are very friendly and for the information you receive it is well worth the money.

Never have I thought I will touch a rat!

A very educational experience. I wouldn’t come here if its not for my bestie imparting logic in me. I ended up with knowledge and love for the African rats! Such heroes saving the lives of Cambodians from danger! Highly recommend for you to come and enjoy and support the NGO!

A must visit in Siem Reap for the family

I recommend visiting Apopo if you are coming to Siem Reap. Being able to learn about how these incredible African giant rats are able to be trained to find explosives under the ground and how they are saving lives and supporting landmine victims is one of the most insightful experiences of our trip to Cambodia. It was kid friendly and our children were thrilled to be able to hold one of the rats at the end of the visit. Thank you for the opportunity to visit Apopo.

This was such an informative and eye-opening visit. It is so important that every tourist taking in the beauty and history of Siem Reap and Angkor take the time to go to the APOPO visitor centre and learn about the amazing work that the hero rats and their handlers are doing. It's a terrible fact that Cambodians are still suffering horrendous injuries from land mines so many years after the end of the Khmer Rouge era. Please make sure to contribute something to their essential task. (The rats are really cute too!)

I was a bit dubious about visiting rats, but my goodness I'm glad I did! The work this charity does is extremely impressive & it shows how passionate they are when you listen to them talk & then watch the rats (huge!) in action. Before this trip I knew nothing of APOPO which is entirely charity run. Their work is invaluable. It really is worth the visit.

A really nice gem to visit and find out about the very important mine-searching rats througout Cambodia.
Very interesting tour, friendly staff and lots of new impressions on the „other side of Cambodia“.
