We were picked up at our hostel and were taken through the itinerary for the afternoon by our tour guide who grew up in the floating village. First we stopped off to try bamboo sticky rice, then stopped at a local bakery to try donuts and other sweet treats. The floating village was very eye-opening and a boat trip along the river was great! Would definitely recommend as you are shown how the money you give is invested into the village. The price of the ticket is all inclusive, no hidden costs.

We had an incredible, authentic, and fun day visiting this floating village that is off the beaten path and removed from all the other tourists is Siem Reap. Our guide Saro, who is from the floating village, was very kind, knowledgeable, professional, accommodating, and a safe driver. We visited the community nonprofit school that the Bridge of Life organization founded, walked through part of the village that’s on land, and took a boat around the park of the floating village that is on water. We were the only tourists, which made this extra special. It was clear that Saro is passionate about helping his community and that the funds from the tour support the local people. They’ve funded housing projects, built water wells, etc. We also stopped for local snacks (bamboo sticky rice, mini donuts, and dried jackfruit) along the way which were delicious! Would highly recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a memorable and unique experience!

We had the great opportunity to have a tour in the afternoon guided by Saro. He showed us his home village passionately and answered every possible question that came up to our head during the day. It was all in all really overwhelming and impressive. We can definitely recommend this tour especially if you are looking for an experience that not only shows your the reality but also has an impact for the people who lives at the floating villages in therms of many different projects from the organization. So a highly recommendation from the heart!

We were looking for a floating village tour on the internet and came across their website. Luckily for us we decided to take this tour even if it was a little more expensive than other tours, for instance on Get Your Guide, because it was simply amazing.
We were picked up at our hotel and together with a total of 7 people we started driving towards the floating village. On the way our great guide Paren introduced hinself and already told us a lot of interesting stuff about the village, its people and the cambodian culture in general. We stopped at a sticky rice shop and a local bakery where we were able to try a lot of local food of which most was delicious.
In the village itself we were guided through the school that is supported by Paren‘s oganization. Thereafter we did a boat tour from the village to the lake where we were able to see some wild buffalos and more real „floating“ houses.
But in the end the best thing about this tour is that Paren grew up in Kampong Kleang and a big part of his family still lives there. For this reason he‘s not only able to provide „real“ insights but he also has a great connection to the people there so you rather feel very much welcomed instead of getting treated like annoying tourists.
After 6 hours precisely we were brought back to our hotel.
All in all just absolutely worth every penny! :-)

Kompong Khleang based in Siem Riep connected to Tonle Sap is a floating village where 90% of community are fishermen. The village is catch their fish in the river which connects to Tonle Sap. Tonle Sap is a huge lake that provides the livelihood not only to Cambodian but also to neighbouring Vietnam. These communities are competing with each other but remain peaceful way of lives. Live are poor in materials but rich in happiness. From children faces they are free and enjoy what was given although not much.
Floating village and stilts village comes from the architecture of the houses. To cope with the floods up to 8m in wet season houses are built on top of stilts which is only 1m deep into groups. These structure seems to cope with the dry and wet season. Some houses are attached to oil drums that floats during floods.
Natural disasters seems to be way of lives in Kompong Khleang. Thinking back to bushfires back home. Makes me wonder if first world country comes up with a way to deal with life.

Our tour to the forgotten temple and the village of Outaput in Kompong Khleang was absolutely a highlight of our time in Cambodia.
Our guide, Paren, was amazing and so knowledgeable about the jungle flora and fauna and the temple history. Visiting his home village was such a privilege and so educational for the adults and teenagers in our group. We also had a boat tour on the Tonle Sap Lake. Included in the cost of our tour was a stop at a local bakery for delicious Cambodian cakes/biscuits and another stop to try the local sticky rice cooked in bamboo.
I would 100% recommend choosing this tour of the floating villages over any other - it’s wonderful to know that the profits are going towards improving the lives of local people, including building a new school to improve the chances of young people growing up. Thanks so much Paren.

Some other tourists had cautioned against visiting the floating villages during the dry season and I’m glad I did not listen to them. While the community was not totally flooded, it was fascinating to see this unique lifestyle. Also, the house boats float on the lake this time of year and apparently they do not during flooding season. The guides are from the community so intimately know the way of life. The tour fee also supports locally initiated projects including education and health care. We happened to visit during the building inauguration of the new school built with funds from this org. Anyway, cannot recommend enough.

Saro showed us around Kompong Khleang, informing all the while about the difficulties and advantages of life on the water. Their Bridge of Life school get's a special mention and highlights the important role the organisation plays in the community. Sticky rice and doughnuts to start things off was a real treat of course! Saro was lovely, ever helpful and informative as well as having a laugh with us. Can't recommend the tour highly enough.

Saro thank you so much. This was by far the best day in Siem reap. Seeing it in the dry season with the children running around was wonderful knowing that in the wet season they are floating high in the water caught in houses or floating boats. I will come back to compare. Saro showed us his family home Took us round the preschool and then onto the boat onto tonie sap lake to see more floating houses. Whole experience humbling. Knowing our money goes back into the project for children’s schooling, sewing classes and computer knowledge is amazing but you can see they need more help. More tours. So please use this company x
