When walking and sightseeing in the small village of St. Wolfgang, you should take some of your time to have a short visit to the “Sankt Wolfgang Church” also nicnamed the “Friedenskirche von 1958 zu St. Wolfgang”. It is a “Protestant parish church” who is located in the municipality of St. Wolfgang and this is in “Salzkammergut” who is in the district of Gmunden Upper Austria's Salzkammergut. The church was built between the years 1958 and 1959. The parish is part of the Evangelical Church A.B. in Austria and belongs to the Protestant Superintendentur Oberösterreich. The community is integrated into the pastoral room of the Protestant parish church of Bad Ischl. The church of St. Wolfgang is also called Friedenskirche.

It’s a beautiful old ancient church surrounding with small nice Buildings, hotels, restaurants overlooking the lake. It’s a very nice small city to spend 1-2 nights with nice cosy hotels. Beautiful nature views around the lake. You can also take a boat ride there.

The church is well known for the intricate altar piece; a mixture of carving and painting, with two side panels that hinge outwards to reveal the religious scene within. The church is ornate - as one would expect given its antiquity - but well maintained with the gilding etc. in fine condition. Aside from the wonderful art it is clearly a working, living church with a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. Well worth a visit.
