Every time I go to St Wolfgang I do this walk. The walk by the lake at Reid is fabulous. Then steeply up and down through the woods to Gasthof Falkenstein .The reward was a lovely bowl of pumpkin soup The walk has to be done especially as you then catch a boat back across the lake.

Lots of walking but very scenic. One part was very steep but the rest was fine. Great way to see the country.

We walked this in about 3 hours with a welcome lunch at the Hotel & Gasthof Fuerberg - if you are walking from St Wolfgang to St Gilgen this is the only place to eat when descending down from the mountain before St Gilgen. Many reviews did not highlight the toughness of the uphill starting and ending sections. You do not need to be super fit but you do need to be in fairly good health and be prepared for loosish terrain- loose gravel and rocks. DONT WEAR SANDALS! Once you have made the initial ascent of about 150 meters it is a relatively easy walk but the descent is also quite steep and on loose gravel. Towards the end- from the St Wolfgang start - there is a church where you can ring the bell before you make your descent. Just before the church there is a sign to a viewing area 25 minutes away. Definitely take this for stunning views of Wolfgangsee but again be prepared for loose rocks and areas of steepness.
