We highly recommend, u go by train, better to book in advance or via your hotel. The route takes about 25 minutes, the views from the top are amazing, breathtaking, marvelous...And after coming down, browse through splendid town of St. Wolfgang.

December may NOT be a good month to do this activity. Their winter trip is only half way up the mountain and a little anti-climatic. All in all I would call it a so so activity. There are many other activities in the area that are just as exciting. Definitely NOT worth the money. :(

Dear 3Paull1988, thank you so for your review and for your visit. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay that much. In 2020 we have some news for you: The Advent-Train will run as far as to the middle station. The journey takes 30 minutes up there and wonderful views over Lake Wolfgangsee can be expected. Best regards, your team from SchafbergBahn

This review specifically relates to the Advent journey on the Schafbergbahn. This trip is not the full journey, and visitors should not expect it. It goes only as far as the Dorneralm, which is only part-way up the mountain and only 15 minutes from the base station. (This is due to the prohibitive costs of clearing the lines between the Dorneralm and the top of the Schafberg.) At the Dorneralm, another carriage of the train is set aside as a place where you can enjoy some punch or mulled wine, as well as the spectacular view over the valley. If you go into the experience expecting only this, you will not be disappointed.

Unique ride with the steam train to the top of the mountain. I found the way this train operates very interesting (there is also an exhibition about that and the history at the top). Views are stunning, both during the ride and once you get up to the top. It's a bit expensive, but I think it's worth it (there are also combination tickets including boat available). Some of the trains are not powered by steam engines, but with diesel ones.

The Schafberg mountain is very nice and the view on Wolfgangsee is special and panoramic. The train is uses steam boilers and looks old and special. The price is more then 30 Euro for round trip. Very expensive for the outcome you get.
