Watch out!!! Unfortunately we were fooled here. Therefore, there is no good rating.
We just wanted to go 2 stops and suddenly AED 160 was asked for 2 people instead of 1 AED.
Unfortunately, the boat driver wanted to pull tourists here. Unfortunately, we fell for it.

We went there at around 5PM, walked around and waited for the sun to set.
At around 7.30PM we hired an Abra (traditional boat made of wood) for a 30 minute tour (AED 60). There were only the 4 of us. We drove around on the Creek and he then dropped us off on the side where the Souqs are.
To cross the creek it costs AED 1 only!
Definitely happy, that we didn't book a tour!

We had read about Abras and wanted to experience crossing the river in the typical Emirati boat, so we headed to al Ghubaiba and then to the Souk station and took the trip for 1 dirham.
Remember to stay on the right side of the baot, we went on the left and it is not as nice.
It was a cool experience though and I wished we had done that more often, as the views are amazing and we went during the call to prayers, which made it even more special.
P. S: pay attention to the driver, he wanted to trick us but I insisted and got my change back.

The Abra is the traditional mode of transport in the region and is still used by locals for public transportation. However, for a tourist, it is a memorable experience and provides beautiful views along Dubai Creek. Unlike most of the modern city of Dubai, riding an Abra across the Dubai Creek is like stepping back in time and experiencing the Dubai of old. The cost is 1 AED, cash only. The Deira Old Souk Station is near the Old Souk and from here you can cross to Bur Dubai and explore the historic Al Fahidi Neighborhood, Al Fahidi Fort and Dubai Museum and Al Seef shopping and dining development which is a more refined experience compared to the seedy Souk area.

There has been a ferry between the old souk in Deira and Bur Dubai, the historic nucleus of Dubai, for ages. The waterbus between the two stations is a convenient service. It is used mainly by locals who work in the Dubai area and costs 1 dirham one way. Embarking and disembarking is a routine and is easy to blend into as a foreigner. In a way most people in Dubai are foreigners. So no haggling about a price like in Egypt or elsewhere in the Arab world.
When in Dubai I use the Deira station regularly as part of a daily walk along Al Seef to Infinity bridge and the Deira souk area and returning by waterbus (1 and a half hour).

When you visit this area of Dubai taking a boat ride across the river is a must. This section of waterway is the main ferry point from one side of the river to the other. On the main side are the Gold & Spice souks. On the other side are tourist restaurants along the river. Food is good. You will also find the Dubai Museum and other historical points of interest. It costs 1 Dirham per person which is almost FREE.

The experience of crossing the Deira on board the traditional dhow and obligatory tour for those who visit the Deira. Although the tour is quite short (maximum 5 minutes) on simple and quite traditional boats it is worth it, the amount that is paid and very low (about 1 to 2 dihans). At Abra station you find several who make the journey every minute. We made the trip in a dhow with the tour group we were but doing alone is also a pretty simple option.

Most tourists disembark here to visit the Gold souk in Deira. Another option is to walk through the Deira souk eastward and take a ferry back to the other side of the Creek at Al Sabkha Marine Transport Station. From here as well ferries go across to the Bur Dubai old souk.
Keep in mind that ferries from Deira to Bur Dubai in the early morning are less frequent than the other way around. Waiting time could be more than half an hour.

It's not the most spectacular boarding point. That one is on the shore of Bur Dubai. But this is also interesting. There are a lot of abra boats waiting for their customers, while others are constantly going back and forth on the canal. The price of an abra trip is only 1AED.

So, we weren't very educated in the water taxi system or abras. We started out at another dock and paid 2 dirhams for a ride across the creek to Al Fahidi. The only taxi we saw were newer and faster and were easier to get in and out. This was part of the public transportation system. We came back across the creek to this station and saw all kind of boats especially the ABC boats which were only 1 Durham and looked more authentic.

Is the trip across Safe for pregnant women?

If you mean crossing the creek on one of the passenger boats, I say yes. It is safe because stepping on and off the boat is easy without any jumping or climbing involved. Once on board you can sit down. The ride is not bumpy either.

Are there small burg el arab and burg el khalifa souvenirs ? If so how much?
Written 3 April 2017
Hi There, Unquestionably you can find a variety of burj al arab/ burj Khalifah souveneirs. From perfume bottles, trinkets, paintings, shirts etc ranges in price and do be prepared to haggle. The spice and fabric souk are my preference. But you will not find higher quality gold than the Deira gold souk.
A bit difficult to give a price-everything is negotiable. If you want to spend 10dir rather than 45+ go to Deira.

Travelling with kids with bulky luggages.
Will be driving a rented car from Dubai airport - heading straight to Deira Old Souk Abra Station, before driving to Abu Dhabi on the same day.
The question is - where is the nearest, safest, most affordable car park?
Written 19 January 2017
Oh, and, honestly ...safety is your least consideration. The congestion will be considerable .
