We spent 2 days at Machu Picchu. Magical. One day with guide and second day on our own at our leisure. Spiritual place with amazing views and great people. Town of Aguas Calientes is so fun.

We felt like Indiana Jones. We even hiked up the stairs, took us a bit more than one hour and we arrived quite K.O., as the sun came out when we were on half of the way up. Luckily we had enough water with us....More

Truly a wonder of the world! It is amazing that this city was built in this location without modern technology. Interesting history.

Reading Hiram Bingham's account of his discovery of the since misnamed 'Lost City of the Incas' as a boy, I've longed to see the place. Now that I have, there are mixed feelings. The site and situation of this remarkable city cannot be described, as...More

Nothing prepares you really for setting foot here, even though we had been planning it for months and looking forward to it so much. It is a genuinely incredible experience to wander around the ancient site and begin to understand what skill and knowledge had...More

Despite what everybody recommended we did not line up for the bus before 6.00 am. After having been told 7.30 is better we did exactly that and walked straight on a bus without having to wait in line.

A dream realized. As much as crowds flock to this site and new regulations are in place concerning the areas open to tour, it is still a worthwhile adventure. Aguas Calientes is indeed a tourist town with inflated prices but location, location - still interesting....More

You currently do not have to have a guide. Many people entered without a guide when we were there a few weeks ago. From what we heard that rule will not be enforced until next year.
